Work EnvironmentFast-paced startup setting, collaborative teams, flexible rolesSales-driven environment, target-focused, often in corporate or agency settings
Employer & Industry UsageStartups across tech, SaaS, e-commerceSales organizations, tech companies, marketing agencies

While both roles involve client interaction and sales skills, an Account Manager Startup focuses on maintaining and growing existing client relationships within a startup environment. An Account Executive primarily focuses on acquiring new clients and closing sales. The roles overlap in skills but differ in their core responsibilities and work settings.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an account manager in a startup?

To thrive as an Account Manager at a startup, you need strong relationship-building skills, sales acumen, and a background in business or marketing, often evidenced by a relevant degree or experience. Familiarity with CRM tools like Salesforce, project management platforms, and digital communication systems is typically required. Outstanding adaptability, proactive problem-solving, and effective communication help you stand out in the fast-paced and dynamic startup setting. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving customer success, managing rapid change, and supporting business growth in a competitive environment.

What unique challenges do account managers face when working at a startup compared to established companies?

Account Managers at startups often encounter a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment where processes and structures are still evolving. This means they may need to wear multiple hats, adapting quickly to shifting client needs and internal priorities. Unlike larger companies with established support systems, startup Account Managers often take on broader responsibilities, such as helping shape customer onboarding or product feedback loops. This dynamic can be both challenging and rewarding, offering significant opportunities to influence growth and build strong client relationships from the ground up.

What does an account manager do at a startup?

An Account Manager at a startup is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met, and helping them achieve success with the company's products or services. They often serve as the main point of contact between the client and the startup, handling inquiries, addressing concerns, and identifying opportunities for growth and upselling. In the fast-paced startup environment, Account Managers may also assist with onboarding, troubleshooting, and collaborating closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to deliver an excellent customer experience.

Build a $100K+ Career Solving Real Business Problems
Let's be real for a second.
You don't need years of sales experience to succeed here.
You need a strong work ethic, the ability to connect with people, and the drive to improve.
We can teach you the rest.
At Hall's Culligan, you're not selling something optional.
You're helping businesses provide clean, reliable water for their employees, their customers, and their day-to-day operations.
It's something every company needs - and when you show up with the right solution, it's a conversation that actually matters.
If you're someone who wants to build a real income and do work that has a clear impact, this is the kind of opportunity that can take you there.
Let's Talk About the Money (Because That Matters)

• Average earnings: $60K - $90K
This is a true build-your-book-of-business role. We don't cap your income.
If you're the type who knows how to prospect, follow up, and close - you can build a very strong income here.
What This Role Actually Looks Like
This is outside B2B sales.
You'll be:
• Prospecting and building your own pipeline
• Walking into businesses, making calls, and creating opportunities
• Meeting with decision-makers and understanding their needs
• Recommending solutions that actually make sense for their business
• Closing deals and growing long-term accounts
The reps who win here are the ones who stay consistent and treat it like their own business.
What You Get (Support Without the Hand-Holding)
Tools & Setup
• Company phone + iPad
• Mileage reimbursement
• AI-powered coaching (SIRO) to help you improve fast
• Proven sales process (we don't make you figure it out alone)
• Ongoing training through Culligan University
• Flexibility to manage your own schedule
• Free Culligan equipment for your home
Benefits
• Stable, growing company with real advancement opportunities
• Medical, dental, vision
• 401(k) with company match
• Wellness program + EAP
• Accrue paid time off per pay period
What We're Looking For
• You're comfortable prospecting (calls, drop-ins, networking)
• You don't need someone checking in on you every hour
• You're competitive and driven by results
• You know how to build relationships and close
Why People Make the Switch to This Role
• They're tired of being micromanaged
• They want more control over their income
• They want to sell something that businesses actually need
• They're ready to build something of their own
About Us
Hall's Culligan has been in business for nearly 100 years. We've built a reputation for delivering reliable water solutions to homes and businesses - and the demand continues to grow.
This isn't a startup.
It's a proven product, real market demand, and a sales role where effort pays off.
