What is an account manager engineer?

An Account Manager Engineer is a professional who combines technical expertise with client relationship management. They act as a bridge between a company's engineering team and its clients, ensuring that technical solutions meet client needs. Their responsibilities typically include understanding client requirements, proposing engineering solutions, coordinating project delivery, and providing ongoing technical support. This role requires strong communication skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously.

What does an account manager engineer do in engineering?

An account manager engineer serves as a technical liaison between a company and its clients, ensuring customer needs are met through technical support, product knowledge, and problem-solving. They often coordinate with engineering teams to customize solutions, provide training, and ensure client satisfaction. Strong communication skills and technical expertise are essential for success in this role.

How much does an account manager engineer get paid?

The average salary for an account manager engineer typically ranges from $70,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and industry. Professionals with technical skills and certifications in engineering or account management may earn higher compensation, especially in high-demand sectors or with advanced expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account manager engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Manager Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, sales acumen, and a relevant degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, technical product platforms, and industry certifications (such as PMP or relevant technical certificates) is often required. How does an account manager engineer typically balance technical problem-solving with client relationship management in their daily work?

An Account Manager Engineer often splits their time between addressing clients’ technical needs—such as troubleshooting issues, recommending solutions, or overseeing project implementation—and nurturing strong client relationships through regular communication and strategic planning. This dual focus requires a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. PointFive is the AI Efficiency OS. From the cloud to the coding agent, we\'re the only platform that manages AI spend everywhere it happens.

Engineering and FinOps teams use PointFive to make their organizations more efficient and their cloud and AI more effective. We don\'t just show what you spend. We show what you\'re wasting, and we fix it autonomously. NuBank saw ROI in 10 days. Customers average 1,200%+ ROI and a 4.9 rating on G2.

Founded by the team behind IntSights (acquired by Rapid7), PointFive recently closed a $60M Series B led by Accel, with participation from Entrée Capital and Salesforce Ventures.

About the Role

The Enterprise Customer Account Manager (CAM) is the primary commercial owner of PointFive\'s enterprise accounts — owning the full post-sale lifecycle from onboarding coordination and activation through renewals, expansion, and overall Net Revenue Retention. This role carries a quarterly-adjusted NRR quota, operates in complex enterprise environments with multi-threaded stakeholders, and reports directly to our Chief Revenue Officer.

What You\'ll Do
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned enterprise accounts, building multi-level relationships across DevOps, FinOps, Engineering, Finance, and executive stakeholders.

  • Maintain clear account plans with renewal and expansion strategy.

  • Own all renewals, negotiations, and forecasting.

  • Identify and close expansion opportunities (new business units, increased usage, new modules).

  • Navigate pricing, legal, and procurement workflows.

  • Partner with Solutions Engineering to ensure strong onboarding and time-to-value.

  • Proactively manage risk and protect revenue, translating technical value into ROI and business outcomes.

What We\'re Looking ForMust-have
  • 5+ years in enterprise account management, customer success, or strategic sales.

  • Managed complex enterprise accounts ($250k+ ARR preferred).

  • Owned renewals and expansion against a revenue or NRR quota.

  • Experience with complex procurement cycles.

  • Strong understanding of DevOps and/or FinOps, and familiarity with AWS/GCP/Azure environments.

  • Able to engage credibly with engineering and finance leaders.

  • Strong executive communication and enterprise negotiation skills.

  • Structured account planning and forecasting, with high ownership and accountability.

Nice to have
  • Experience at an early-stage or high-growth startup.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary Range: $133,000 – $168,000

  • Competitive OTE range: $190,000 – $240,000 with uncapped commission, plus equity

  • Health, dental, vision (yes, all three!), equity in something early-stage and exciting, generous PTO, 401K, meal & commuter benefits, and a team that will actually challenge you.

Why PointFive
  • Founders with a track record — Built and sold IntSights to Rapid7. Backed by top-tier investors with deep conviction in this category.

  • Category-defining product — DeepWaste detection and agentic remediation with clear, measurable ROI for both engineering and finance teams.

  • Early-stage leverage — Your work directly shapes the product, the culture, and the go-to-market playbook.

  • Direct line to the CRO — this role reports straight into revenue leadership, with real influence over how PointFive manages and grows its enterprise book.
