What is an account associate?

As an account associate, you provide sales, marketing, logistical, or financial support to individuals or teams within your company. Your job duties may include maintaining documentation and schedules for ad campaigns or payments and invoices, coordinating with clerks and other colleagues in the office, processing records, and providing clerical support. The career qualifications for an account associate vary depending on the exact nature of your work. However, you typically need at least a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, marketing, or another relevant field and prior experience in a similar role. You also need excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

What does an account associate do?

An Account Associate typically supports account managers and sales teams by assisting with client communications, preparing reports, and handling administrative tasks. They help ensure that client accounts are managed efficiently and that clients receive high-quality service. Account Associates may also conduct research, process orders, and resolve issues, acting as a key point of contact between the company and its clients. This role is often considered an entry-level position and provides valuable experience for advancing within sales or account management careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Associate, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and sometimes basic accounting systems is typically required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities help you stand out in this client-facing role. These skills are crucial for accurately managing accounts, supporting client satisfaction, and contributing to the overall success of the sales or account management team.

How does an account associate typically collaborate with sales and client service teams?

Account Associates work closely with both sales and client service teams to ensure client needs are met and that ongoing projects run smoothly. They often act as a liaison, communicating client feedback, coordinating deliverables, and supporting the sales process by preparing proposals or presentations. Regular meetings and shared project management tools help facilitate this collaboration. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as Account Associates must balance multiple priorities and maintain positive internal and external relationships.

What is an entry-level account associate?

An entry-level account associate is a junior professional responsible for supporting sales, customer accounts, or financial transactions within a company. They typically perform tasks such as data entry, client communication, and using customer relationship management (CRM) tools, often requiring basic knowledge of finance or sales processes. This role is suitable for individuals starting their careers with limited experience and may involve on-the-job training.

Role:  Account Executive

Location:  Toronto, Canada

About the role:

As Account Executive, you sit at the centre of the in-house team — connecting media partners and creative colleagues across every project. You'll manage trafficking documents, workback schedules, and billing processes while supporting the Account Manager and Account Director on day-to-day account work. This is a role for someone equally comfortable taking clear direction and identifying what needs to happen next without being asked.

What you will be doing:

  • Manage the development and population of trafficking documents across all lines of business, coordinating asset collection and validating campaign details with English and French agency counterparts
  • Build workback schedules and maintain alignment across clients, media partners, and the internal team throughout the project lifecycle
  • Set up and manage projects and deliverables in the project management system, keeping dates and details current for client and team status meetings
  • Take meeting notes and distribute clear action points to the relevant stakeholders after each client or team session
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings with the right people at the right time
  • Manage billing processes including creating purchase orders, estimates, and sales orders; track hours and support budget management in the project management system
  • Stay informed on industry trends and innovations; bring relevant insights to the team and clients
  • Support the Account Manager and Account Director on projects as needed, stepping in wherever the team needs you

What you need to be great in this role:

  • Experience in an account coordination, junior project management, or similar role within an advertising agency or in-house creative team
  • Hands-on experience delivering print and digital creative projects, with a solid understanding of digital and social channels
  • Confidence communicating with clients and presenting information clearly in a professional setting
  • Experience managing billing detail, tracking project hours, and supporting project budget administration
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail across fast-moving, multi-stakeholder projects
  • A proactive working style — able to take direction and take initiative in equal measure
  • Proficiency with Gen AI tools relevant to account and project management work
  • Experience building personal workflows to improve efficiency and output quality
  • Agentic approach to project coordination: able to break complex tasks into clear steps and identify the most effective path forward
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI outputs and apply sound human judgment
