What is an accessioning manager?

An Accessioning Manager oversees the process of receiving, documenting, and tracking samples, specimens, or materials as they enter a laboratory, archive, or repository. They ensure that all items are properly logged, labeled, and entered into database systems according to established protocols. This role is critical for maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the workflow of scientific or archival operations. Accessioning Managers often supervise staff, manage workflow efficiency, and may also coordinate with other departments to resolve discrepancies or issues with incoming materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accessioning manager?

Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and communicate effectively with a team are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate specimen processing, compliance with regulations, and efficient lab workflow management.
