Under the direction of the supervisor, the Instructional Technology Assistant provides operational and technical support for instructional technologies used in online, hybrid, HyFlex, and face-to-face learning environments. The position supports faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of the College's learning management system (LMS) and related instructional technologies while assisting with training, course readiness, accessibility, and user support.
The Instructional Technology Assistant serves as a first point of contact for instructional technology support and assists in maintaining reliable instructional technology operations that support student success and effective teaching practices. The Instructional Technology Assistant provides limited instructional technology on call support outside standard business hours during critical academic periods, as approved by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains advanced working knowledge of the Canvas LMS and serves as a frontline support resource for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Supports instructional technology needs for online, hybrid, HyFlex, and face-to-face courses.
  • Serves as first contact for Canvas help tickets, and monitors tickets serviced by Canvas Support on a daily basis.
  • Provides timely technical support and troubleshooting related to Canvas and other instructional technologies through in person, virtual, email, and phone support.
  • Maintain proficiency, and provides faculty and student support, in MyWestern portal as it relates to Canvas and other software commonly used in teaching (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • Provides faculty training and support for Canvas and other instructional software platforms, such as Studio, Honorlock, NetTutor, Turnitin, Commons, Simple Syllabus, and Learning object applications.
  • Assists with the coordination and delivery of instructional technology workshops, webinars, tutorials, and support materials for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Creates and maintains instructional guides, tutorials, FAQs, and support documentation related to instructional technologies and online learning systems.
  • Monitors course creation, course accuracy, user creation, and faculty and student enrollment in Canvas on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the ILP platform to support accurate synchronization of course and enrollment data with the Canvas LMS.
  • Assists with semester start up processes, including course creation verification, enrollment troubleshooting, and instructional technology readiness checks.
  • Assists faculty in developing accessible instructional materials consistent with ADA, Section 508, and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Assists faculty with creating assessment files (exams) and importing them into Canvas.
  • Maintains and updates online and HyFlex course listings on the WyClass website for each semester.
  • Occasionally provides limited instructional technology on call support outside standard business hours during critical academic periods, as approved by the supervisor.
  • Provides support for institutionally approved instructional technologies and AI-supported teaching tools as assigned.
  • Performs monthly maintenance and updates on all technology equipment within the Center for Teaching and Learning, including laptops housed in the COW (Classroom on Wheels).
  • Coordinates and manages reservations for the Center for Teaching and Learning for meetings, trainings, workshops, and other events.
  • Arranges travel accommodations and related logistics for CTL team members as needed.
  • Orders, inventories, and restocks office and hospitality supplies for the center, including beverages and refreshments for faculty.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)
1. Associate degree in a related field.
2. One (1) year of experience supporting instructional technologies, learning management systems, technical support operations, or related customer service environments.
Knowledge of:
• Comprehensive role of the community college

Equivalency Statement
For those candidates who do not exactly meet all minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
  1. Bachelor's degree in instructional technology, education, information systems, educational technology, business technology, or a related field.

Experience
  1. Experience supporting Canvas or another learning management system in a higher education environment.
  2. Experience providing technology training or customer support to faculty, staff, or students.
  3. Experience troubleshooting instructional technologies, classroom technologies, or educational software platforms.
