Job description

Ready for a meaningful second chapter? You've built skills. Led teams. Solved problems. Delivered results. Now imagine using that experience to directly impact someone's daily life. At AbilityPath, we support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live fuller, more independent lives - and we're looking for mission-driven people ready to do work that truly matters. Whether you're transitioning from corporate, healthcare, education, public service - or simply seeking more purpose in your next chapter - your experience brings leadership, structure, and compassion into a role that changes lives. No prior IDD experience required. Just empathy, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Your Experience Is More Valuable Than You Think Former managers, teachers, teach professionals, healthcare professionals, corporate leaders, customer service experts - your skills translate powerfully into this work. Communication. Organization. Leadership. Patience. Problem-solving. These aren't just resume bullet points here - they're life-changing tools. About Our Opportunities Our team members provide meaningful, hands-on support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in both community-based and on-site settings. Whether serving as a Program Instructor, Direct Support Professional (Independent Living), Employment Specialist, Job Coach, or Job Developer, you'll play a direct role in helping individuals build skills, confidence, independence, and connection. Across all of our roles, the heart of the work is the same: empowering people to live fuller, more self-directed lives - at home, at work, and in the community. These opportunities are especially meaningful for professionals transitioning into a second career - individuals ready to apply their experience in communication, organization, leadership, coaching, or relationship-building to work that creates visible, human impact every day. If you're looking to align your career with your values and contribute to a mission-driven nonprofit community, this could be the next chapter you've been searching for. Education & Experience In our approach to inclusive hiring, we recognize that traditional job qualifications have often excluded talented candidates from marginalized communities. Below are experiences that are helpful in this role - but we strongly encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single item. A combination of lived and learned experience can absolutely make you successful here. Helpful background:
  • Degree in a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Relevant work or volunteer experience
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities (preferred, not required)
No experience in the IDD field? That's okay. We provide training, mentorship, and a supportive team environment. Hiring Requirements
  • 3 years of a valid California Driver's License/ID
  • 3 years clean driving record (for driving positions)
  • Proof of negative TB test
  • Physical clearance verification
  • Criminal fingerprint clearance
  • 21 years of age for driving roles
Accessibility & Inclusion We recognize that each person has unique access needs. AbilityPath is committed to ongoing accessibility improvements and encourages team members to share access needs during the interview process, upon hire, and throughout employment. What We Value
  • Passion for our mission
  • Interest in working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Collaboration and teamwork
  • Open, thoughtful communication
  • A shared commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
We strongly encourage BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, and multiply marginalized candidates to apply. AbilityPath is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team where everyone can show up authentically. Why This Work Matters Some careers build profits. Some build people. If you're ready for a second career that reflects your values and allows you to see the difference you're making every day - we'd love to meet you. APPLY TODAY- Fill out our inquiry form and one of our team members will be in touch with you!
