The organization provides guidance on faculty rights, academic due process, and works to ensure quality and integrity in higher education institutions. AAUP members may engage in research, policy development, and support of professors' rights and responsibilities within colleges and universities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AAUP (Academic Advisor/University Professional), and why are they important?

To thrive as an academic advisor or university professional, you need a background in higher education, counseling, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in academic environments. Familiarity with student information systems (such as Banner or PeopleSoft), advising management software, and FERPA regulations is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills help advisors effectively support and guide diverse student populations.
