Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies** \r\n

Nature of Work

\r\nThis is skilled mechanical work in the\r\nmaintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel light, medium and heavy-duty\r\ntrucks, and/or off-road heavy equipment requiring basic technical ability as\r\nthis relates to engines and major assembly rebuilding. Employees in this class are in training on\r\nmaintenance procedures and will work closely with experienced mechanics upon\r\nentry to the job. Employees are assigned\r\nbasic repair work and progress up to more complicated maintenance work. Employees exercise a low amount of\r\nindependent judgment concerning methods of repair until they are trained in the\r\nmore difficult maintenance work. This\r\nposition reports to a Service Manager and works under the guidance of a Master\r\nMechanic. \r\n\r\n\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

\r\nThree\r\n(3) years of experience within the past five (5) years as an automotive\r\nmechanic with at least one (1) year as an independent lead mechanic OR a\r\ndiploma/certificate in automotive mechanics and one year of experience as an\r\nindependent lead mechanic.\r\n\r\nNOTE:\r\nQualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite\r\nknowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

\r\nMust have and maintain a\r\nvalid Alabama driver's license and an insurable driving record in order to\r\ndrive city vehicles. Must be able to attend specialized training out of\r\ntown as needed to maintain or increase skills. Must be willing to respond\r\nto the Garage in order to make repairs to automotive vehicles after normal\r\nworking hours and be willing to be on call 24 hours during emergency situations\r\nor when deemed necessary by the Sheriff or his designated representative.\r\n\r\n
