How much do 600 hour pilot jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 10, 2026, the average yearly pay for 600 hour pilot in the United States is $130,916.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $100,000.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the 600 hour pilot position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 600 Hour Pilot, you need a commercial pilot license, solid proficiency in flight operations, and at least 600 logged flight hours. Familiarity with GPS navigation, communication systems, and standard aviation weather tools is essential. Strong situational awareness, decision-making, and effective communication help pilots excel in dynamic environments. These competencies ensure safe transport, regulatory compliance, and smooth coordination with crew and ground teams.

What types of aircraft and flight missions are typical for a 600 hour pilot, and how does this impact my day-to-day responsibilities?

A 600 Hour Pilot commonly operates smaller fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters for roles such as regional charter flights, aerial surveys, pipeline patrol, or agricultural spraying. Your responsibilities may include detailed pre-flight planning, managing in-flight navigation and communication, and conducting thorough post-flight inspections. These positions often involve solo operations or working closely with a small flight crew, so self-reliance and strong procedural knowledge are important. The missions can vary day-to-day, offering diverse flying experiences and valuable exposure that serve as a foundation for advancing to larger aircraft or more complex operations.

What is a 600 hour pilot?

A 600 Hour Pilot job refers to an entry-level pilot position that requires a minimum of 600 flight hours. These roles are typically for low-time pilots looking to gain experience in charter, aerial survey, or flight instruction. Employers offering these jobs may seek pilots with a commercial license, instrument rating, and sometimes multi-engine experience. These positions help pilots build flight hours toward higher-level qualifications, such as airline transport pilot (ATP) certification.
