Sylver Rain Consulting is an IT solutions provider and proven expert in providing skilled consultants to meet any business need. We specialize in custom software development, cloud computing, IT project support services, 508 compliance, artificial intelligence solutions, machine learning and systems integration. We are currently looking for a Sr. 508 Tester/Subject Matter Expert to support our Washington DC team and clients.
Our Section 508 Program requires a qualified tester to support and consult with client stakeholders to test and validate user interfaces against accessibility requirements and advise on technical implementation of digital accessibility requirements at the client. The tester shall provide subject matter expertise to increase adoption of unified accessibility testing of information and communication technology within the client environment, provide configuration, training, operation support, and track usage of accessibility testing products within the environment, including coordinating such activities with various helpdesks client wide. Tester will use manual and automated accessibility conformance testing for client Web sites and applications, electronic documents, software or hardware within scope of Section 508.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Verify client's conformance with accessibility standards and compliance with Section 508.
  • Provide broad-based accessibility testing and 508 technical assistance to clients.
  • Deliver high quality accessibility test results, awareness, information and services, including but not limited to:
  • Accessibility testing for IT governance and life cycle or IT investment reviews
  • Producing accurate and clear reports regarding Section 508 compliance
  • Testing and remediating electronic documents
  • Coaching development teams on accessibility testing skills for web and electronic content and applications
  • The tester shall conduct periodic accessibility assessments for client applications. Report results in a consistent and clear fashion to Section 508 Program Manager or project points-of-contact as appropriate.
  • Tester shall perform document accessibility assessments, and remediation of inaccessible content. Communicate both accessibility assessment results, and solutions to content owners as is appropriate.
  • Tester shall evaluate Section 508 compliance assessment and remediation tools to continuously improve client compliance program. Knowledge of best practices for managing accessibility of information and data is required
  • Tester shall provide functional assessments and assistive technology evaluation/comparison reports as new Section 508 compliance testing tools/competing products become available in the commercial marketplace.
  • Technical assistance shall include, but not be limited to:
  • product-specific Section 508 compliance assessment,
  • web developer guidance
  • one-on-one client accessibility training
  • electronic document accessibility assessment and remediation,

Qualifications/Position Requirements
Detailed knowledge on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA standards
  • Familiarity with Acrobat Pro
  • Strong technical skills using common business tools, such as SharePoint, Microsoft Office products.
  • Familiarity using automated accessibility testing tools like DeQue tools Axe, WorldSpace Comply, Attest and Assure.
  • Experience setting-up and configuring test tools and assistive devices for testing, such as JAWS, ACCVerify and NVDA
  • Tasks require significant experience testing systems against specific manual tests, automated tests and assistive technology tools. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Must have 5 years of experience testing software applications for 508 compliance;
  • Must understand 508 requirements for applications and how to apply principles of accessibility to creating Section 508 presentations;
  • Must understand 508 concepts such as accessible forms and tables;
  • Must have experience writing test plans, performing integration testing, and must be familiar with testing methods and 508 best practices;
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of testing web-based applications and documents;
  • Must be skilled at documenting compliance against Section 508 technical standards;
  • In depth knowledge of 508 compliance standards and compliance for IT products and documents;
  • Certified IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS); and DHS Trusted Tester Certification
