What is a 3PL coordinator?

A 3PL Coordinator is a logistics professional responsible for managing and coordinating the movement of goods through third-party logistics providers (3PLs). Their duties typically include overseeing shipments, tracking inventory, handling customer inquiries, and ensuring that goods are delivered efficiently and on time. 3PL Coordinators act as a liaison between their company, transportation providers, and customers to streamline supply chain operations and resolve any logistical issues quickly. They play a critical role in optimizing costs and maintaining high service levels within the supply chain.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3PL coordinator?

To thrive as a 3PL Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, knowledge of logistics and supply chain processes, and typically a degree in business, logistics, or a related field. Familiarity with logistics management systems (LMS), transportation management software (TMS), and proficiency in Excel are commonly required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help you coordinate effectively with carriers, clients, and internal teams. These skills are crucial to ensure seamless operations, cost efficiency, and high customer satisfaction in third-party logistics environments.

What are some common challenges faced by 3PL coordinators when managing logistics partners, and how can these be addressed?

3PL Coordinators often encounter challenges such as communication gaps between clients and logistics partners, delays due to unforeseen supply chain disruptions, and discrepancies in inventory data. To address these, coordinators typically implement robust tracking systems, maintain clear and proactive communication with all stakeholders, and conduct regular audits of inventory and processes. Building strong relationships with both internal teams and external vendors also helps to quickly resolve issues and ensure smooth logistics operations.

Job description

About Formlabs:
Do you want to change how the world creates?
At Formlabs, we're building the tools that make it possible for anyone to bring their ideas to life, from cutting-edge products to life-saving medical devices. Our 3D printing technology powers innovation at more than 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. Together, we're helping everyone design, prototype, and manufacture faster than ever before.
We're a team of hands-on builders, engineers, and innovators reinventing how the world makes physical things. If you're ready to shape the future of fabrication, come build it with us.
Your Impact: Joining Formlabs as a Omni Channel Distribution & 3PL Operations Coordinator is a high-impact opportunity to be the final link in our global chain. You are the person who ensures the promise we make to our customers is kept. From resolving order sync errors to coordinating with regional carriers like FedEx and UPS, you make sure our printers leave the dock and reach the customer without friction. If you're a proactive "figure-it-out" person who loves working in a fast-paced environment and wants to make a tangible impact on customer satisfaction, we want you on our team.
What You'll Do:
  • Lead the daily monitoring of regional order flows, ensuring that all customer orders sync correctly between Shopify, NetSuite, and our 3PL warehouse management systems.
  • Oversee the resolution of order exceptions, such as address validation errors, inventory stockouts, or SKU mismatches, to prevent shipping delays and customer friction.
  • Direct the coordination of daily carrier pickups, working closely with warehouse staff and partners like FedEx, UPS, and DHL to ensure all "shippable" orders leave the dock on time.
  • Implement inventory reconciliation tasks by assisting in weekly cycle counts and investigating discrepancies between physical warehouse stock and digital records.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success teams to provide real-time updates on high-priority orders, transit delays, or regional delivery disruptions.
  • Drive shipping accuracy by auditing outbound packaging and documentation for regional compliance, ensuring all domestic and international labels meet carrier requirements.
  • Analyze daily fulfillment reports to identify "aging" orders that have exceeded our processing SLAs, escalating bottlenecks to the Senior Coordinator or Regional Head.
  • Support the execution of regional returns and "Reverse Logistics," ensuring that returned products are processed, inspected, and restocked or disposed of according to company policy.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving sync errors, ensuring that 'stuck' orders are identified and cleared within 24 hours.

About You:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent operational experience will also be considered.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a fulfillment, warehouse, or logistics coordination role, ideally within a high-growth e-commerce environment.
  • Solid understanding of order-to-cash cycles and basic warehouse operations (receiving, put-away, picking, and shipping).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift hourly.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise updates to both internal teams and external 3PL partners.
  • A proactive, "figure-it-out" attitude with a commitment to high-quality execution and customer satisfaction.

Bonus Skills:
  • Basic proficiency in Excel for data entry and simple report generation.
  • Experience using Shopify, NetSuite, or common Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Familiarity with regional carrier networks and basic domestic shipping regulations.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
Even if you don't check every box, but see yourself contributing, please apply. Help us build an inclusive community that will change the face of 3D printing.
Compensation
We are all owners of Formlabs and direct beneficiaries of our success. We believe that equity is a critical component of compensation at Formlabs, and we want our newest team members to understand the potential value of their equity compensation. Full time employees receive equity, in the form of RSUs. Your financial investment will grow with us in accordance to your impact.
At Formlabs, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization.
The annual base pay range for this role is:
$62,000-$75,000 USD
