Primary Purpose of Position
The Equipment Operator A is responsible for the safe and efficient operational shift activities for the Medway and Framingham generating stations. The facilities are highlighted by 2 GE LMS 100 Quick Start 100MW nominal units. The units possess the highest efficiency for simple cycles gas turbines in the world. The existing Equipment at Medway includes three oil fired Rolls Royce Avon "Quad Units" each rated at 60 MW. The Framingham units are 3 oil fired Rolls Royce engines each rated at 15 MW.
The title, Equipment Operator A, designates employees, who under direct and general supervision, operate CT's and all station auxiliary equipment in a safe and efficient manner within the limits of his/her ability by virtue of his/her license and training.
This position requires the incumbent to possess, at entry, a Massachusetts Second Class Fireman's License. Incumbents must successfully complete Company sponsored or directed supplementary courses or training, on and off the job, as provided.
It is required that incumbents progress to the next highest level on the job progression chart as positions become available.
Incumbents are required to perform assigned duties indoors and outdoors on rotating shifts with various days off. Overtime will be required as needed. Incumbents work alone or with others as needed.
  • Operates simple cycle gas turbines and all plant auxiliary equipment, as qualified.
  • Receives and delivers instructions for effective turnovers and communication.
  • Conduct LTO on equipment and make equipment safe for personnel to perform work within the limits of his/her training.
  • Completes shift turnover as required by procedure.
  • Makes inspection of all equipment and recommends or takes corrective action.
  • Maintain high standard of personnel and equipment safety and environmental compliance and practices.
  • Respond quickly to abnormal plant conditions and requirements
  • Performs a variety of preventative and minor maintenance functions when the units are out of service.
  • Keep work areas clean and neat.
  • Maintain a Safe and Respectful workplace culture with the site team.

Organizational Relationships: Reports to the Operations Supervisor. Works under the direction of employees of a higher grade.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a Massachusetts Second Class Fireman's License.
  • Requires knowledge of the operation and function of boilers, turbine/generators and auxiliaries and their relationship to the operation of a generating station.
  • Must be able to operate various repair/test equipment.
  • Must have correctable vision and unimpaired hearing in order to track or detect abnormalities in the operation of equipment.
  • Experience in the use of personal computers.
