What is a 200k accounting?

A 200K Accounting job refers to a position in the accounting field that typically pays an annual salary of $200,000 or more. These roles are often senior-level, such as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Corporate Controller, or Partner at an accounting firm. They require extensive experience, advanced credentials like a CPA or MBA, and a strong track record in financial management, strategy, and leadership. Professionals in these positions are responsible for overseeing large teams, setting financial policies, and ensuring organizational compliance and profitability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 200k accounting professional?

To excel in a high-level accounting role, you need advanced expertise in financial reporting, tax planning, and regulatory compliance, typically supported by a CPA, CMA, or similar certification and several years of experience. Mastery of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, advanced Excel functions, and accounting software like SAP or Oracle is crucial. Exceptional analytical thinking, leadership, and communication skills help you manage teams and advise stakeholders effectively. These capabilities ensure accurate financial management, strategic guidance, and the ability to drive business growth in complex organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by accountants managing large-scale portfolios or high-value accounts?

Accountants responsible for high-value accounts, such as those in the $200K range, often encounter challenges like ensuring strict compliance with complex regulations, maintaining confidentiality, and managing increased scrutiny during audits. These roles may also require advanced proficiency in financial analysis, reporting, and the use of specialized accounting software. Collaborating closely with executive teams and financial advisors is common, and effective communication is essential to support strategic decision-making while mitigating risk.

Job description

VP of Accounting / Controller

Build the Accounting Function Behind the Next Stage of Growth

Weโ€™re partnering exclusively with a rapidly growing, venture-backed consumer company that has experienced significant expansion over the last several years and is entering an exciting new stage of growth.

The company is profitable, highly technology and AI forward, and building the infrastructure needed to support its next chapter. Weโ€™re looking for a VP of Accounting who wants more than a traditional Controller seat. This person will work directly with the CFO, lead the accounting organization, and have the opportunity to put their fingerprints on the systems, processes, controls, and team supporting the business as it scales.

And yesโ€ฆthe office is pretty incredible too.

Why You Should Apply

  • Get in while the company is taking off. This is an opportunity to join a growing organization while there is still significant opportunity to build and influence how the finance function operates.
  • Meaningful equity. Beyond a strong base and bonus package, this position includes significant equity participation and the opportunity to share in the companyโ€™s future growth.
  • Direct CFO exposure. Youโ€™ll work closely with the CFO and executive leadership rather than operating several layers removed from decision making.
  • Build, donโ€™t maintain. Help evolve the accounting infrastructure, strengthen processes, leverage automation and technology, and create scalability for continued growth.
  • Complexity that keeps things interesting. Multiple entities, multiple states, multiple brands, retail and ecommerce operations, seasonal working capital, and continued expansion.
  • Technology-forward environment. This organization is embracing AI, automation, and new technology rather than relying on โ€œthe way weโ€™ve always done it.โ€

What Youโ€™ll Own

  • Own the accounting function across a growing multi entity and multi state organization
  • Lead month end close, consolidated financial reporting, general ledger, reconciliations, and operational accounting
  • Lead and develop an accounting team while overseeing outsourced accounting resources
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, processes, and reporting infrastructure
  • Manage cash flow and working capital needs within a seasonal consumer and retail environment
  • Partner with the CFO on capital management, forecasting, strategic initiatives, and executive reporting
  • Support the accounting integration of acquired businesses and evolving organizational structures
  • Improve systems and processes through automation, AI, and scalable technology
  • Partner cross functionally with operations, retail, ecommerce, and executive leadership
  • Coordinate external audit, tax, and other financial reporting requirements

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Masterโ€™s degree preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Progressive accounting leadership experience at the Controller, Corporate Controller, VP of Accounting, or similar level
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and command of US GAAP
  • Experience leading accounting within a complex, multi entity organization
  • Experience with both public and private company environments is a major plus
  • Public accounting experience is a plus
  • Background within retail, ecommerce, consumer products, technology, or manufacturing strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting a high growth or acquisition driven organization highly valued
  • Strong understanding of cash flow, working capital, and capital management
  • Experience building and developing accounting teams
  • NetSuite or comparable ERP experience preferred
  • Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment where you can think strategically while still getting into the details

What You Need To Know

Location: Denver, CO

Schedule: Fully onsite

Compensation: $200k - $240k Base Package

Bonus: Up to 15%

Equity: Meaningful equity opportunity with substantial long term value potential

Employment Type: Full time, permanent

The Opportunity: Join during a major stage of growth and help build the accounting organization that will support where this company is going next.

If youโ€™re an accounting leader who loves the idea of getting in on the ground floor of the next chapter, building something meaningful, and having a real seat at the table, Iโ€™d love to connect.
