This is a unique opportunity to practice psychiatry beyond the traditional clinic setting and work directly with individuals living with serious mental illness in the communities where they live, work, and recover.If you're passionate about serving underserved populations, believe in recovery-oriented care, and enjoy collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, we'd love to hear from you.Schedule: Day shift | Part timePay: $65 - $70 per hourAbout the ACT TeamThe ACT Team provides intensive, community-based mental health treatment to adults living with serious mental illness, including:SchizophreniaSchizoaffective DisorderBipolar I DisorderMajor Depression with Psychotic FeaturesCo-occurring substance use disordersOur team brings psychiatric, nursing, therapy, case management, peer support, and substance use treatment services directly to clients in the community, helping them achieve stability, independence, and meaningful recovery.About the RoleAs the ACT Team Psychiatrist/Prescriber, you will serve as the team's primary medical expert, providing psychiatric assessment, medication management, and clinical consultation while working closely with therapists, nurses, case managers, and peer support specialists.Unlike traditional outpatient psychiatry, this role involves providing services in the field-including client homes, shelters, and community settings-allowing you to see the full picture of each individual's life and recovery journey.You'll play a critical role in helping individuals who have historically struggled to engage in traditional treatment access the care they need.What You'll DoClinical ServicesConduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessmentsDiagnose and treat serious mental illness using evidence-based psychiatric practicesDevelop and manage psychotropic medication regimensMonitor treatment effectiveness, side effects, laboratory results, and overall health outcomesCollaborate with clients using shared decision-making and person-centered treatment approachesProvide psychiatric services in community-based settingsParticipate in daily ACT team meetings and integrated treatment planningConsult with nurses, therapists, case managers, and peer support specialists to coordinate careSupport clients experiencing psychiatric crises and provide emergency psychiatric consultationCollaborate with hospitals, emergency departments, and crisis stabilization programs to ensure continuity of careMaintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical RecordTeam CollaborationServe as the team's primary psychiatric consultant and medical authorityProvide guidance regarding psychiatric symptoms, medication management, and behavioral health interventionsParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and fidelity reviewsContribute to a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed culture of careOn-Call ResponsibilitiesParticipate in after-hours psychiatric consultation and backup on-call coverageSupport clinical staff during psychiatric emergenciesProvide guidance regarding emergency medication interventions and crisis responseWhy Join First Step House?Practice psychiatry in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environmentWork directly with individuals who have the greatest barriers to careExperience meaningful client relationships and long-term recovery outcomesHelp shape innovative community-based psychiatric servicesMake a measurable impact on individuals, families, and the communityQualificationsLicenses/Certificates/Registrations:Full, unrestricted licensure as a Physician (MD or DO) in the State of Utah, or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure with prescriptive authority in the State of Utah - required (applicable pathway)DEA Controlled Substance Registration - requiredCPR / BLS Certification - requiredBoard Certification in Psychiatry (ABPN) - required for MD/DO pathway; PMHNP-BC (ANCC) - required for APRN pathwayValid Driver's License and Insurability - requiredDATA 2000 Waiver (X-Waiver) for buprenorphine prescribing - strongly preferredMental Health Officer designation in the State of Utah - preferredWhat We're Looking ForThe ideal candidate is:Recovery-oriented and trauma-informedPassionate about serving individuals with serious mental illnessCollaborative and team-focusedFlexible and comfortable providing services in community settingsSkilled at building trust with individuals who may be hesitant or resistant to treatmentCommitted to person-centered, strengths-based careAt First Step House, you'll join a mission-driven organization dedicated to helping individuals build healthier, more meaningful lives.
