A Brief Overview

The Director, Legal Operations is the most senior Legal Ops leader supporting Safelite's legal team. This role acts as the primary partner to the General Counsel and the broader legal team, helping translate Legal Ops priorities into practical, measurable outcomes that move the business forward.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who can think strategically and also roll up their sleeves to get things done. The Director builds strong, trusted relationships with both legal and business partners, develops capabilities within the team, and continuously pushes the function to evolve with a focus on impact, accountability, and results.
What you will do:

Operating Model and Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute a regional workplan aligned to the global Legal Ops strategy and the priorities of Safelite's EVP, General Counsel

  • Analyze legal work types, volume, risk levels, and skill requirements to identify the optimal mix of insourcing, outsourcing, and self-service, and design appropriate protocols

  • Consult with regional legal leadership and VP, Global Head of Legal Operations to influence and facilitate the development of priorities and related change initiatives

  • Connect regional Legal Ops initiatives to the long-term priorities of the global legal function and the broader business, integrating goals with Finance, HR, Sales, and other operational functions

  • Lead, manage, and develop the regional Legal Ops team, setting clear objectives, supporting professional growth, and building a high-performing, collaborative culture

  • Represent Safelite in the global Legal Ops community, contributing knowledge, insight, and perspective to shared initiatives and communities of practice

Technology and Process Improvement

  • Own the Safelite implementation of Belron's global legal technology roadmap

  • Drive systemic process improvement, moving from tactical fixes to structural, longer-range efficiency gains, documenting processes, building playbooks, and creating scalable standards

  • Champion genuine technology adoption, ensuring tools are embedded in legal team workflows rather than simply deployed, lead change management, training, and user engagement

  • Assess emerging technology and AI capabilities relevant to the legal function; develop recommendations and escalate priorities to the VP, Global Head

  • Automate repetitive or time-consuming manual processes to free legal capacity for higher-value work

Financial Management and Outside Counsel

  • Develop, manage, and communicate the Safelite legal budget in close partnership with Finance colleagues; monitor actuals against opportunities for savings and efficiencies

  • Oversee Safelite legal spend management including outside counsel fees, alternative legal service providers, and technology costs; provide analysis and recommendations on spend trends and alternative fee arrangements

  • Manage the outside counsel panel in line with global standards: lead RFP and competitive bidding processes, negotiate terms, manage performance scorecards, and actively seek opportunities to move appropriate work to lower-cost providers

  • Collect and report on key financial metrics and KPIs to evaluate legal spend performance and drive continuous improvement

Reporting, Data, Knowledge Management

  • Build and maintain regional Legal Ops dashboards and KPI reporting, feeding data into the global framework on the agreed rhythm and to specification

  • Ensure data integrity across regional legal technology platforms; proactively identify and resolve data quality issues

  • Develop and maintain an effective knowledge management program: standardized templates, naming conventions, process documentation, and knowledge repositories that make the global team's expertise accessible and reusable

  • Uphold global Legal Ops framework guardrails

Learning, Development and Communications

  • Manage training, team onboarding, and professional development initiatives for the regional legal team

  • Develop and maintain effective internal communications, ensuring the legal team is informed, engaged, and equipped to make the most of available tools and processes

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the regional Legal Ops team, creating visible development opportunities and supporting team members in building capability and career progression

What you will need

  • bachelors degree required, advanced degree preferred

  • 7-10 years of experience in legal operations, operations management, or a closely related field, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or program-ownership role

  • In-house experience within a complex, global or multi-site organization is essential

  • Experience contributing to or leading cross-regional or global initiatives, communities of practice, or knowledge-sharing programs within a matrixed organization

  • Demonstrated track record of leading a regional Legal Ops function or large-scale Legal Ops program

  • Experience managing and developing a team

  • Experience managing outside counsel panels, RFP processes, and alternative fee arrangements

  • Proven ability to design and lead complex, multi-stakeholder Legal Ops programs with measurable outcomes

  • Hands-on experience implementing or managing legal technology and AI platforms

  • Strong financial acumen: able to manage budgets, interpret spend data, and develop business cases for investment

  • Strong analytical capability; able to design, maintain, and interpret operational dashboards and KPI frameworks

  • Process mapping, workflow design, change management, and knowledge management expertise

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to engage credibly from team level to senior executive

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel and PowerPoint), Power BI or equivalent, and relevant legal tech platforms

What you will get:

  • Competitive weekly pay and bonus opportunities.

  • Total job benefits valued at more than $10k*. This includes a 401(k) plan with company matching, medical coverage plans customized to suit your needs and a commitment to work/life balance through our paid time off (PTO) programs, company holidays and paid volunteer days.

  • Up to $5,250 in tuition reimbursement per year.
