Overview
Directs the processing, material handling and packaging activities on a designated shift in a safe and efficient manner to achieve the desired quality, quantity and timely production of finished products.

Responsibilities
    • Supervisory Responsibility:
      Directly supervises employees in the processing, packaging and material handling areas at the Allen and Quality Bakery plants. Responsible for the direction, coordination and results of the production area during a designated shift. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, and appraising employees; planning, assigning and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints/grievances and resolving problems.
    • Coordinates the shift's processing, packaging and material handling activities through supervision of employees to ensure the shift's product production objectives are accomplished.
    • Reviews budgets for the production area.
    • Maintains control over manpower and labor costs in the production-related areas through cost-effective scheduling and utilization of personnel.
    • Maintains shift performance for scheduling, production, quality and safety standards.
    • Controls and minimizes overtime labor costs, maintenance/repair costs, downtime and product re-work.
    • Ensures compliance to all federal, state and local laws and company policies.
    • Ensures all required production reporting is timely and accurate.
    • Provides training, direction, development, evaluation, coaching and leadership to employees.
    • Maintains good employee and corporate relations.
    • Coordinates with other department managers and supervisors to ensure proper material handling, maintenance, accounting, quality assurance and inventory control activities and procedures.
    • Maintains company standards for cleanliness, productivity, and maintenance in the processing, packaging and material handling areas.
    • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
    • Serve as a Qualified Individual as part of the plant's Food Safety Plan, including monitoring and verification activities related to process control and preventive control measures.
    • Responsible for preventive control measures including proper Allergen Cleaning. If properly trained to run the Grade A Dairy process, responsibilities will also include process control measures such as proper time and temperature requirements for pasteurization.

Qualifications
    • 2-3 years production/group leader experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a food-related industry.
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Working knowledge of scheduling and production processes.
    • BS/BA degree in a related field desirable.

Working Conditions/Environment
Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, climb, crouch, lift, reach, grasp and bend while moving about the facility. Must be able to move 75 pounds a distance of 25 feet or more at various frequencies and or intervals. Must be able to stand for an 8 - 12-hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks while performing repetitive tasks. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee may be exposed to non-ambient temperatures, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment. The noise level is loud in the plant. Ear protection, eye/face protection, hair/beard nets, steel-toed/slip-resistant shoes, and gloves are required as necessary in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
