Job description

Job Summary The City of Gahanna is seeking a part-time Parks Team Member to join our growing Parks & Recreation Team. The Parks Team Member will assist with the maintenance of parks and grounds areas as well as facilities and equipment by performing various manual tasks. This role performs construction, janitorial, and custodial tasks involved in the maintenance of City streets, parks, and property.

Please note: This position is part-time and typically works 28 hours per week. This position may require evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Starting Salary Range: The starting salary is between the minimum and midpoint of the range.

Candidates will start at the minimum of the range ($14.23 per hour) unless their skills, experience, education or other factors exceed the qualifications for the position. Essential Job Functions Works in the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks and recreation facilities, equipment, and buildings and grounds; performs associated paperwork. Performs street tree maintenance, turf and ball field maintenance, and landscaping and mowing activities as directed

Performs janitorial and custodial tasks involved in the maintenance of City streets, parks, and property; including maintenance and custodial tasks related to restroom facilities. Drive(s) a city vehicle. Handles equipment safely and appropriately; uses appropriate safety equipment when performing essential job functions.

Participates in snow removal when necessary. This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. ** Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education, training, and experience as listed below provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Licensure or Certification Requirements: Current and valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna. Other: Must be 18 years of age or older. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: The principles, practices, equipment, tools, and materials used in park maintenance and construction.

The necessary precautions involved in the use of tools and landscaping equipment. Landscaping and horticulture practices as applied to parks and grounds areas. Skill in: Performing various manual tasks by operating assigned pieces of equipment.

Ability to: (Mental and Physical Abilities) Work independently with limited direction given. Apply problem-solving skills and perform critical thinking. Understand and follow specific oral instructions.

Perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Lift heavy articles. Read and write letters and numbers.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Important Job Functions Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.

Visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibrations, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be called to work 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

The worker will be required to follow all safety policies and procedures and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Performs related tasks as required. Working Conditions: The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions The worker may be called to work 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
