Job description


TITLE:          Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:          
  1. Must have high school diploma or a GED.
  2. Hold a current Ohio commercial driver's license (CDL) class B approved by the Ohio State Highway Patrol with school bus and passenger endorsements.
  3. Attend all safety workshops, meetings, and trainings required by the administration.
  4. Physically qualified as determined by annual physical examination.
 
REPORT TO:           Director of Facilities and Transportation
JOB GOALS:
To provide safe and efficient transportation to and from destinations.  To be in full control of students and to represent Whitehall City schools when meeting the public.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Observes all traffic laws and rules and regulations in effect for the protection of students.
  2. Supervise behavior of students while passengers and make bus conduct reports.
  3. Conduct emergency evacuation drills to train students in proper safety evacuation procedures.
  4. Daily inspection of bus lights, tires, fluid levels, mirrors, doors and brakes to insure proper operating condition (state law).
  5. Maintain records and prepare reports such as passenger counts, fuel sheets and bus defects, bus stop light violators, load, time allotment, routing and reporting other concerns promptly to Director of Facilities and Training.
  6. Keep assigned bus clean inside and outside - windows, lights and safety markings.
  7. Report to work 30 minutes before scheduled departure, warm up bus and inspect all areas as noted in (4).
  8. Transport only authorized students and pick up and discharge students at authorized stops only.
  9. Perform other job related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Training
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  1. Inspect bus, maintain fluid levels, etc.
  2. Transport students
  3. Keep records and file reports as required.
  4. Keep bus clean inside and out - windows, lights, and safety markings.
  5. Turn everything off, lock up keys and lock gate, secure bus, lock keys in driver's room and lock gate when required.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Excellent observation and communication skills
  • May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
  • Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
  • Frequent evening and/or weekend work
