Job description

Associate Health & Leave Specialist

The Associate Health & Leave Specialist is responsible for administering health, leave of absence, and workers' compensation programs while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. This position serves as a trusted resource for associates and leadership, coordinating leave requests, managing case documentation, supporting occupational health initiatives, facilitating return-to-work processes, and providing guidance on leave-related policies and procedures. The role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering accurate, confidential, and employee-focused support.

  • Strong understanding of FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, Workers' Compensation and EEO laws and ability to interpret and apply consistently
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborate effectively with team members while also excelling in independent work environments
  • Demonstrates strong ownership of responsibilities by proactively following up on and completing tasks and projects
  • Consistently maintains excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and apply problem solving skills to resolve issues
  • Independently gathers and analyzes information from multiple sources, using sound judgment and integrity to make informed decisions and deliver responses that align with established policies and procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with Associates at various levels in a team environment
  • Comfortable working with executive level leadership
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented
  • Consistently meets commitments by demonstrating initiative, proactively learning new skills, and driving tasks and projects to successful completion
  • Possesses good organizational and planning skills, can multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Able to document and execute against short- and long-term plans to achieve objectives
  • High level of comfort developing and delivering training presentations to all levels of Associates
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency with HR systems (Preferred)
  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Must be flexible to work different hours as needed by the department/business

Qualifications (experience may include a combination of work experience and/or education)

  • 0-1 years of experience in HR Leave Management or Medical Assisting
  • Experience in Workers' Compensation (Preferred)
  • Experience with external vendors or TPAs (Preferred)
  • Experience in Occupational Health setting (Preferred)
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 2- or 4-year degree in related medical field or Human Resources field (Preferred)
  • Certification/License
    • First Aid and CPR Certified (Preferred)
    • SHRM CP or SHRM SCP (Preferred)
  • Language
    • English (written and verbal)
    • Bilingual in Spanish/English (written and verbal) - Preferred
