Job description
Please note: Effective October 1, 2025, the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services has transitioned to its new name-the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. This change reflects our continued commitment to providing comprehensive, person-centered care that addresses the full range of behavioral health needs for Ohioans. All positions and services now fall under the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health as we move forward in serving individuals, families, and communities across the state.
What you'll do at DBH
The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking an experienced Epic Grand Central Analyst (Information Technologist 3) to support the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of Epic Grand Central applications. In this role, you will partner with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to improve patient flow, bed management, patient placement, transport management, and capacity planning while ensuring compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in maintaining efficient patient movement throughout the organization and supporting high-quality behavioral healthcare operations.
PRIMARY TECHNOLOGY: Epic Systems Application Administration
SECONDARY TECHNOLOGY: Microsoft OS
Epic Grand Central Build, Support & Optimization
- Serve as the agency's Epic Grand Central analyst by designing, building, configuring, testing, implementing, and maintaining Epic Grand Central applications, including bed management, patient placement, transport management, capacity planning, and patient progression tools.
- Analyze current patient flow, bed management, and capacity management workflows with operational and clinical stakeholders; identify process gaps and translate business, operational, and regulatory requirements into functional Epic Grand Central solutions.
- Configure and maintain patient placement and bed assignment workflows supporting behavioral health and sensitive-population patients while ensuring compliance with HIPAA, applicable Ohio confidentiality standards, agency privacy policies, restricted patient visibility requirements, and appropriate access controls.
- Support accurate patient placement records, duplicate visit resolution, and coordination with Identity/Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and registration teams to maintain the integrity of patient movement, census data, and patient progression workflows reflective of behavioral health inpatient and outpatient operations.
- Manage the complete system change lifecycle, including requirements analysis, build, testing, validation, implementation, upgrade support, release management, and post-go-live stabilization for Grand Central applications.
- Troubleshoot application issues submitted through the IT ticketing system; perform root-cause analysis and resolve or appropriately escalate issues within established service-level expectations.
- Develop and maintain build documentation, configuration records, testing scripts, and change management documentation for Grand Central workstreams.
- Serve as the liaison between patient placement teams, nursing leadership, operational leadership, and IT teams to ensure bed management and patient flow workflows remain optimized, accurately configured, and aligned with operational needs.
Cross-Application Support & Security
- Perform cross-application responsibilities as Grand Central workload allows, including patient flow-adjacent Epic modules such as Prelude (Registration), Identity/EMPI, ADT event management, and capacity-related interoperability workflows, as prioritized by management.
- Assist with analysis, system build, testing, implementation, and production support for assigned Epic application areas outside Grand Central to meet organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with Epic application teams supporting Prelude, Clinical Documentation, Orders, Health Information Management (HIM), Care Everywhere, Hospital Billing, Professional Billing, and other integrated applications to ensure seamless admission, discharge, transfer (ADT), patient placement, and revenue cycle workflows.
- Apply Epic Grand Central expertise to ensure accurate, secure, and timely movement of patient information across integrated systems, departments, and downstream applications while maintaining the integrity of ADT events, bed assignments, transport workflows, and patient census information.
- Promote system security by adhering to State of Ohio and agency cybersecurity policies, security standards, and best practices while maintaining data integrity, confidentiality, and appropriate access controls for patient placement and census information.
- Ensure Epic Grand Central and assigned application configurations comply with applicable security, privacy, confidentiality, and access-control requirements governing behavioral health and sensitive-population patient information.
- Complete required security awareness training and promptly report suspected security incidents or vulnerabilities in accordance with agency procedures.
Professional Development & Other Assigned Duties
- Remain current with emerging healthcare technologies, Epic enhancements, industry standards, and best practices; continuously develop new technical and functional skills.
- Complete Epic Continuing Education (CEE), new-version training, and other required educational activities to maintain Epic certifications, proficiencies, and badges in assigned applications.
- Apply new Epic functionality and industry best practices to improve patient flow, bed management, operational workflows, and system performance.
Perform other related duties as assigned in support of agency information technology and healthcare operations.
