The Role You Will Play

As the Legal Assistant supporting a busy litigation partner, you will play a critical role in managing a high-volume insurance defense and civil litigation practice. This position requires a highly organized professional who can work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, revise, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • Electronically file documents in Ohio state and federal courts.
  • Manage attorney calendars, litigation deadlines, and docketing.
  • Track and organize approximately 80–90 active litigation matters.
  • Schedule depositions, hearings, mediations, and client meetings.
  • Prepare Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities for appellate filings.
  • Enter attorney time from dictation and assist with client billing.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical case files.
  • Coordinate attorney travel and other administrative support.
  • Provide overflow litigation support to additional attorneys as needed.

Background Profile

  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation legal assistant or litigation paralegal experience.
  • Experience with state and federal electronic court filings.
  • Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures and court deadlines.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation practice.
  • Excellent proofreading, grammar, and document formatting skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with PracticeMaster, TABS, or similar legal software is a plus.
  • Insurance defense or civil litigation experience is strongly preferred.
