Job description

Position Overview

Lead groups of participants through a weeklong experience at The Summit Bechtel Reserve that involves trail building, participating in Summit activities and reinforcing the values of the OA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead groups of scouts through the OASE program
  • Support other OASE groups in the field when you are not assigned to a crew.
  • Instruct scouts on proper and safe trail building while monitoring their general safety and health
  • Work with OASE and Summit leadership to address any issues that might arise
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
  • Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership
  • Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 21+
  • Required: Member of the Order of the Arrow
  • Required: Comfortable in remote settings for extended time periods
  • Preferred: Trail building experience
  • Ability to obtain Red Cross First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR Certifications (Training provided)
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication

Physical & Practical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and hike up to 9 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds
  • Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
  • Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
