Role Summary: Summit Electric Supply is seeking candidates to fill the role of Lighting Controls Specialist. The Lighting Controls Specialist will assist the company's growing Lighting Controls Department and will support the overall objective of growing lighting controls sales. Responsibilities of the Lighting Controls Specialist include designing IECC code compliant lighting controls systems, assisting outside sales as a technical resource and support Electrical Contractors by producing documentation to support lighting controls specifications, performing take-offs and designs of lighting controls systems from construction documents in preparation for bidding, and coordinating all aspects of controls systems to ensure reliable and functional system delivery, startup and commissioning. This position includes both in-office and on-site tasks working on a wide variety of system and projects.

All applicants for this position must possess strong time management and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are highly desirable. The applicant should be able to function in a fast-paced setting with a high task load.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design code compliant lighting control packages.
  • Support outside sales and electrical contractors on specified lighting control packages.
  • Support project management teams with lighting control packages.
  • Troubleshooting of installed systems and basic field service as required.
  • Assist in product selection, design of basic riser diagrams, development of specifications and contract documents.
  • Serve as a technical resource to inside Summit staff as well as customer base

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Theatrical Production or equivalent technical experience.
  • Familiarity with control theory
  • Ability to read construction documents
  • Understanding of basic electrical distribution within buildings
  • Computer skills required: AutoCAD LT, BlueBeam, Outlook, Excel and Word, and the ability to quickly learn proprietary configuration software for various systems
  • Basic understanding of computer networking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with:
    • RS-485 Networks
    • Building automation systems
    • IT networking infrastructure and protocols
    • Relay logic
    • Wireless systems
  • Experience with Theatrical controls and DMX distribution
  • Knowledge of Industrial and other control systems
  • Knowledge of building energy codes or sustainable building practices

 

Physical Challenges:

  • Consistent sitting for hours at a time.
  • Consistent use of keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to lift 5 pounds on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Ability to climb stairs on occasion.
  • Majority of job is located inside office during regular office hours of operation.
  • Some travel required
