Job description

Apply today to be a Material Handler with one of the most innovative and trusted packaging companies in the world. Printpack is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Material Handler for the Converting plant in Grand Prairie, TX. The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the facility, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods, while maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting production operations. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining smooth facility operations and ensuring materials are available when needed. This will be a 3/2 rotating night shift schedule from 7pm-7am: Sun/Wed/Thurs; Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate various types of material handling equipment, primarily forklifts (stand-up and sit-down), safely and efficiently

  • Perform daily safety inspections of lift equipment and complete required documentation

  • Load and unload trucks according to shipping and receiving schedules

  • Store and retrieve pallets within the plant, documenting inventory locations using handheld electronic devices

  • Stage materials at equipment locations according to production schedules

  • Move and manage Work-in-Process (WIP) pallets between machine locations and rack storage

  • Maintain organized storage areas and implement proper rack numbering systems

  • Perform inventory cycle counts and maintain accurate records

  • Complete all required safety documentation, checklists, and logs

  • Maintain cleanliness standards through 5S practices, including removal of empty pallets and waste management

  • Work in a safe manner

  • Participate actively in Printpack's Continuous Improvement Program

  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Forklift experience required

  • Experience in manufacturing or warehousing environment a plus

Required Skills:

  • Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain forklift certification)

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Ability to read and understand production schedules

Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Standing/walking for extended periods (8-12 hour shifts)

  • Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching

  • Proficiency in grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine motor skills

  • Work in various temperature conditions

  • Exposure to normal warehouse environment

  • Good Eye and Hand coordination

  • Regular exposure to moving machinery

  • Use of ladders and other equipment

  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain forklift and pallet jack certification

  • Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses)

Work Conditions: The majority of tasks will be performed in a manufacturing setting with exposure to:

  • Noise levels above 85 dB

  • Operation of complex machinery

  • Solvents, fumes and inks

  • Variable Temperatures

  • Must be able to work flexible shifts

  • May require nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • An additional $2.50/hr premium for hours worked on NIGHT Shift (7pm - 7am) only
