Job description

NVIDIA wants an outstanding Software Linux Engineer to strengthen our installation, packaging, and software delivery features for NVIDIA's networking software. In this role, you will craft, develop, and maintain user-space tools, packaging systems, software repositories, and installation flows across leading Linux distributions. These include traditional package ecosystems and modern declarative systems like NixOS (Nix package manager). This position allows you to make a tangible difference in a dynamic, technology-focused organization. Your contributions will support product lines powering the world's most advanced data centers, cloud environments, and HPC systems.

Are you driven by Linux, system-level integration, and crafting seamless installation experiences? Do you want to play a role in promoting the deployment of high-speed networking solutions throughout multiple Linux systems, including developing declarative and reproducible package management methods? Are you enthusiastic about working on next-generation packaging technologies, automation, and AI-supported engineering solutions while enabling customers and internal teams to speed adoption?

What you'll be doing:

  • Build, implement, and maintain installation, packaging, and software delivery workflows for NVIDIA networking software across major Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL, SLES, NixOS, etc.).

  • Develop and provide ongoing support for meta-packages, software repositories, release channels, profiles, and tools. These resources help streamline user-space installation and configuration on traditional and declarative package managers like DEB/RPM and Nix.

  • Build and implement automation solutions to improve package validation, release quality, and engineering efficiency, including the adoption of AI-assisted development workflows.

  • Work with distribution maintainers and ecosystem communities (including Nix/NixOS) to ensure compatibility and smooth delivery through native packaging systems.

  • Perform system-level testing and verification of package installations on various platforms and OS versions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (kernel, QA, release engineering, architecture, and support) to ensure installation quality, maintainability, and scalable software delivery.

  • Contribute to Linux kernel driver development and backporting to support advanced networking features.

What we need to see:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, or a related area (or equivalent experience).

  • 4+ years of software development experience, with a strong focus on Linux system-level development.

  • Skilled in Linux package management tools (dpkg, RPM, yum, apt, zypper, Nix) along with scripting languages like Python or Bash.

  • Experience with packaging standards, repository management, release automation, and CI/CD workflows.

  • Familiarity with kernel backporting, patch management, and driver installation (a plus).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a customer-focused approach.

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across diverse Linux environments.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience with deep knowledge of Linux operating systems and distribution lifecycle management.

  • Experience crafting package repositories or software distribution infrastructure as well as working with the NixOS ecosystem and Nix package manager in live production settings.

  • Experience applying AI tools to software development, testing, or automation workflows.

  • Familiarity with cloud or containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience supporting large-scale deployment environments in data center or HPC settings.

NVIDIA is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after employers in the tech industry. We employ many dedicated and innovative individuals worldwide. If you are passionate about Linux systems, enjoy solving real-world problems, and want to help develop the future of AI and networking infrastructure, we want to hear from you!
