Brooks Instrument (www.brooksinstrument.com), an industry leader in flow and pressure instrumentation for critical applications, is seeking candidates for a Senior Technical Applications Engineer, Semi Business Unit position that will be based at our site location in Fremont, California. We also have the company headquarters in Hatfield, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia). Along with these locations, the company also has manufacturing locations in Pennsylvania, Hungary, Malaysia and Korea, and also maintains sales and service offices throughout the world. Our high-tech products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: oil & gas, petrochemical, medical devices, waste water, life sciences, and analytical instruments.

Basic Function

A key role in Brooks Semi Business Unit, the Senior Applications Engineer is considered a technical expert on Brooks Instrument products and has a strong understanding of the semiconductor applications in which they are used.  The Senior Application Engineer will support the sales team, work closely with other application engineers and technical support team, marketing, and engineering to help achieve business goals, manage product qualifications efforts and successfully deliver solutions to Brooks customers. A key technical resource, he/she will communicate current and future semi customer and applications requirements and be a contributor in New Product and Technology development roadmaps.

This position requires an experienced application engineer with a track record of working with Semiconductor companies (End Users or OEMs) to deliver deep customer satisfaction.  It requires a self-starter who can simultaneously work closely with Key Accounts Sales organization to achieve business development goals, provide hands-on support to Key Customers and communicate and leverage the Semi BU resources. The consummate team player who will effectively negotiate with others to achieve win-win outcomes, maintain an open flow of communication, state expectations clearly and achieve desired results. The successful candidate needs to be able to exhibit a sense of urgency and help fuel the company's competitive edge by serving as a technical catalyst for innovative thinking. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary Sales support contact for external and internal sales team to answer complex sales and technical questions, system configuration, custom product request, and resolve customer issues at a high level

  • Build a test system, take data, analyze the data and present the technical data to a non-technical audience.

  • Will work the sales team to build customer relationships Takes on technical tasks to assist Product and Marketing Managers.

  • May be assigned to a specific product or market. Understands global standards relative to those products and markets.

  • Provide technical support for both internal and external customers (international and domestic_ Expected to provide expert support, where necessary, to Super 80 customers and those who champion these sites within the company

  • Responsible for training Sales, Service, and Applications Engineers on the safe and effective use of the products and value propositions.

  • Identifies and documents competitive advantages in specific application and market niches.

  • Analyzing and prepare data and reports on competitive product performance

  • Build and leads product demonstrations to customers in the Applications Laboratory.

  • Where appropriate, works with the Business unit to accelerate engineering and manufacturing tasks, using the appropriate business management system tools.

  • Collaborates with Sales and Engineering to gain an understanding of optimized system configurations, competitive applications information, and system proposals.

  • Work with all groups in manufacturing to improve processes and process yields

  • Provide training to customers and sales organization

  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel up to 30%

Education and Experience

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent technical background

  • A degree in a technical field is required with a minimum 5 years’ experience.

  • Ability to program C# and Labview

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of materials testing practices and technologies along with applications engineering experience at Brooks or other business(es).

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of computer business skills

  • Grasps concepts related to electronics and mechanical systems acquired through a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in physics, materials science, fluid dynamics, mechanical or electrical engineering.

  • Leverages ITW toolbox processes such as 80/20 and Usa to streamline and improve business processes and products.

  • Self-starter who looks for opportunities for self and business improvements without prompting.

  • Aptitude and willingness to work across the organization to meet desired results. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization ranging from shop floor personnel to senior management.

  • A positive attitude focused on understanding, anticipating and responding to the needs of our customers, both internal and external to the department and organization.

  • High level organizational skills to maximize self-productivity under pressure of deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Must possess key leadership qualities, including flexibility and reliability.

  • Excellent communication/customer interaction/presentation skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and deal effectively with change to balance competing business needs.

  • Excellent analytical, verbal, written, and presentation skills required.

Compensation Information:

$120,000 - $170,000 annually
