Job description

Title: Lab Infrastructure Services Engineer-5506
Location: Santa Clara, CA (Onsite)
Duration: Long term contract

Job Description
The lab infrastructure services engineer is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the Custom Compute and Storage (CCS) product labs. The person in this contract position is expected to have a deep understanding of data center management, Perform various tasks on different projects of CCS Engineering labs.
Required Skills
3-5 years of technical experience, in a large-scale data center or IT infrastructure environment.
Manage and maintain the lab infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment and HW components
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in the engineering lab environment
  • Commitment to Quality
  • Great communication skills with accountability to internal customers and Labs
  • Experience with standard lab equipment (e.g., Racks, test bed benches, switches, and power supplies)
  • In-depth knowledge of System/OS level TCP/IP Networking is a must.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work inside a data center environment
  • Must be able to rack-mount servers and connect required cabling
  • Must be able to work extended hours inside a data center environment
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be willing to work onsite
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as oral and written skills.

Required Education:
  • Proven experience as a systems or network administrator in a R&D or IT environment.

Desired Skills:
  • Familiar with the installation, operation, repair and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure, including LAN TCP/IP knowledge related to problem research.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proactive to identify and come up with solutions to lab needs
  • High level of flexibility

Additional Information
This position's primary focus, at this time, will be to support CCS R&D labs located in Santa Clara.
Product labs support and on building, enhance, and maintain highly available infrastructure.
Ability to work independently or as a team on repetitive physical tasks without direct supervision after initial on-the-job training on tasks as outlined below:
  • Install, configure, and maintain lab-specific hardware and software applications and tools used by research teams.
  • Document HW setups, and best practices for knowledge sharing and reference.
  • Removal of end-of-life hardware from engineering labs
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching).
  • Proficiency in Linux and Windows server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in asset and HW components inventory management (GLPI)
  • Test HW boards and server components
  • Troubleshooting power distribution unit (PDU) and network switch related issues
  • Should be flexible to work with remote teams in India to debug any lab-related issues.
  • General housekeeping of labs
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Please ensure that candidates submitted for consideration meet the outlined qualifications and possess relevant experience in R&D Lab or IT environments.
  • Emphasize candidates' experience with Data Ceter, Systems administration, automation, and collaboration within cross-functional teams.
