About our Adult Day Program:

Our Adult Day Program provides structured daytime services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Individuals participate in skill-building, recreational, educational, and community-based activities that support independence, social connection, and personal goals. Staff work directly with individuals throughout the day, providing instruction, encouragement, personal care, behavioral support, and opportunities for meaningful participation.

The Role:

We are looking for an organized, confident, and proactive Program Coordinator for our Adult Day Program in Long Beach, CA. 

The Program Coordinator (PC) is the lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) within the program. This is a hands-on working lead role, not a traditional administrative or supervisory position.

The PC works directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the day, providing personal care, instruction, skill development, and positive behavioral support. The goal is simple: keep individuals safe, engaged, supported, and moving toward greater independence.

The PC also helps keep the program running. This includes coordinating daily activities, adjusting schedules, supporting documentation, reinforcing expectations, and providing day-to-day guidance to DSP staff. The PC reports to the Program Director and leads through communication, consistency, and example, without formal supervisory authority.

    Job Description

    The Program Coordinator provides direct support to individuals while helping coordinate the daily flow of the Adult Day Program and ensuring staff are supported and aligned. 

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Provide hands-on direct support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
    • Assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, mobility, meals, communication, community participation, and other daily needs.
    • Model and implement behavior supports, including de-escalation techniques during challenging situations
    • Support individuals in achieving personal goals and increasing independence
    • Lead by example and provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to DSP staff
    • Complete accurate and timely progress notes, reports, data tracking, and other required documentation
    • Assist with individual goals, ISP updates, and documentation expectations
    • Assist with basic program operations; coordinate transportation, community activities, program supplies, and other daily operational needs
    • Communicate professionally and effectively with families, providers, and interdisciplinary teams
    • Follow established health, safety, licensing, medication, transportation, and program procedures
    • Communicate concerns, changes, or operational challenges to the Program Director
    • Maintain the rights, dignity, health, safety, and confidentiality of the individuals served
    Qualifications

    Education & Experience: 

    • Bachelors degree in Human Services, Special Education, or related field is preferred.  Or, equivalent training/experience in disability services will be considered.
    • A minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is required. 
    • At least one (1) year of experience in adult day program, vocational program, residential program, behavioral health setting, educational setting, or other community-based disability service

    Skills & Abilities: 

    • Confident and professional communicator
    • Able to clearly communicate information, concerns, expectations, and program updates
    • Able to lead, coach, and support peers without formal supervisory authority
    • Strong written communication and documentation skills
    • Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities throughout the day
    • Ability to pivot when circumstances change
    • Calm, adaptable, creative, and solution-focused
    • Able to provide respectful, person-centered support
    • Comfortable working directly with individuals who may require personal care, behavioral support, mobility assistance, or physical assistance
    • Able to maintain professional relationships with individuals, staff, families, residential providers, Regional Center representatives, and other community partners
    • Tech savvy with computers, electronic documentation systems, email, spreadsheets, and other workplace technology
    • Able to work independently while recognizing when concerns must be communicated or elevated to the Program Director

    Additional Requirements:

    • Highschool Diploma or GED
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record
    • Ability to lift and transfer 50 lbs.
