BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Caucus Director, the Assistant Consultant (Caucus Liaison) will support Democratic Senators with public outreach and communications across web, social media, broadcast, and print platforms. This full-time position is responsible for developing timely, accurate, and accessible content that advances the Caucus's legislative agenda and engages the public across digital channels.
DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Caucus Director, the Assistant Consultant will work directly with Caucus staff and Member offices to develop and execute a comprehensive social media communications strategy encompassing both long-term planning and day-to-day execution.
- Develop and implement long-term social media strategies aligned with Senate Democratic Caucus communications goals and legislative priorities
- Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across official Caucus social media platforms
- Craft and execute messaging strategies that advance the Caucus's legislative agenda and educate the public on key policy initiatives
- Analyze current digital communications efforts to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with Caucus staff, communications teams, and policy staff to develop coordinated, cross-channel content
- Monitor and respond to public comments, messages, and mentions in a professional and timely manner to foster community engagement
- Stay current on social media trends and platform changes to grow reach and public awareness
- Ensure all content adheres to Caucus brand standards, accessibility requirements, and public records policies
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thinks creatively, works well on a team, and thrives in a fast-moving environment. Strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and adaptability to shifting Member and communications needs are essential. Candidates must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, Member offices, Senate support offices, media, and the public. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Knowledge of Sony cameras (FX6, FX3, FX2)
- Experience creating content for government agencies, nonprofits, political campaigns, or news organizations
- Familiarity with social media management platforms (Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Sprout Social, etc.)
- Experience with platform analytics and reporting
- Paid social media advertising and campaign boosting
REQUIRED:
- Experience managing and producing content on Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube
- Ability to create graphics, captions, and branded visual elements
- Proficiency with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve)
- Experience shooting and editing content using DSLR, mirrorless, or smartphone cameras
- Ability to design thumbnails and social media templates
- Proficient in photo editing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, with experience creating graphic assets and visual content through Adobe Creative Suite.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required. At least two (2) years relevant experience is required. Please include verification of your degree with your completed application. California state government, the Legislature and political issues facing the state.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance.
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours or weekend work.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
