Overview We are seeking a Design Release Engineer to lead the development and release of powertrain sealing components for automotive applications. This role is responsible for driving designs from concept through validation and production release, ensuring performance, quality, and timing targets are met.
The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers to support sealing systems across multiple engine programs, including both current production and new development.
Responsibilities Design & Development - Lead design and development of sealing components such as O-rings, gaskets, and seal retainers
- Ensure designs meet functional, safety, and performance requirements
- Support design validation through CAD reviews, FEA interpretation, and engineering analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (thermal, electrical, packaging) for system integration
Release & Program Management - Manage design release through key milestones (B-Sample, C-Sample, X0-X3, and production release)
- Own and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
- Drive Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards
- Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure successful product launch
- Support APQP processes and ensure parts remain on track with development timing
Technical Leadership & Problem Solving - Provide technical guidance on sealing design, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Lead DFMEA and risk assessments to ensure robust designs
- Support issue resolution during development and production phases
- Interpret FEA/CAE results and ensure proper application of findings
Supplier & Stakeholder Collaboration - Lead supplier interface meetings and ensure alignment on deliverables and timelines
- Work with suppliers to ensure manufacturability, feasibility, and cost effectiveness
- Partner with validation and integration teams to confirm performance and fitment
Documentation & Reporting - Maintain engineering documentation including specifications, drawings, validation plans, and reports
- Provide regular project status updates, including risks and timeline tracking
- Ensure alignment with program milestones and production readiness
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience with sealing components and systems, including materials and manufacturing processes
- Understanding of product development tools and documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R)
- Knowledge of mechanics of materials, GD&T, and design validation principles
- Ability to interpret CAD models (e.g., Siemens NX) for design reviews
- Basic understanding of FEA/CAE, including analysis interpretation and boundary conditions
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Preferred Qualifications - 5+ years of experience in design and manufacturing of sealing or related components
- Experience creating or executing validation plans
- Experience in automotive or powertrain systems development
- Familiarity with Siemens NX and Teamcenter
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate ambiguity in complex programs
