Your role and responsibilities:

The Application Engineering Manager for Electrification Services (ELSE) is responsible for leading the U.S. Application Engineering (AE) organization in support of the Commercial Operations and Sales teams. This leader will drive customer-focused technical solutions through direct customer engagement, ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality Statements of Work and Job Cost Estimates, and develop a high-performing team of Application Engineers capable of supporting the growth objectives of the business.

The role serves as the primary functional leader for Application Engineering and is accountable for driving continuous improvement in people, processes, and technology to improve proposal quality, technical accuracy, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction. This position also plays a critical role in building technical capability throughout the commercial organization, collaborating closely with Proposal Management, Business Development, Operations, and other ABB engineering teams to standardize solutions, improve proposal cycle time, and enhance organizational effectiveness.


This is a remote position.
You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Application Engineering team by setting clear performance expectations, coaching employees, closing technical skill gaps, and implementing targeted development plans.

  • Provide technical leadership and customer solution support across the ELSE portfolio, including strategic customer engagements, site assessments, solution development, and effective resource prioritization to ensure successful execution.

  • Drive proposal excellence and operational effectiveness by ensuring high-quality SOWs and JCEs, improving inquiry-to-order (ITO) processes, and partnering with Commercial Operations to enhance proposal quality and cycle times.

  • Standardize and continuously improve engineering processes and capabilities through KPI management, solution and estimating libraries, digital tools and automation, process improvements, and the development of comprehensive technical training programs.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor's Degree required and 12+ years relevant work experience. Candidates with Electrical Engineering degree will be preferred.

  • Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time within US

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in application engineering or field engineering in power delivery products and systems including a minimum of 5 years of experience working with customers in oil & gas, metals, mining, paper, power generation, data center, commercial buildings or similar business segments.

  • Experience leading geographically dispersed technical teams strongly preferred.

  • Experience with proposal development, statement of work creation, job costing, and commercial operations processes.

  • Background in field service, power systems engineering, or industrial electrical services.

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
