Job description

National Jewish Health is seeking a dependable and team-oriented Food Prep Worker to join the Food & Nutrition Services team. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping provide nutritious meals to patients, staff, visitors and students throughout the National Jewish Health campus. Unlike many food service positions, this role offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., supporting excellent work-life balance with evenings and weekends off.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and assembles food items for patients, cafeteria guests, catering events and school meal programs
  • Supports patient room service and cafeteria operations through food and beverage preparation
  • Assists with serving breakfast and hot food items as needed
  • Sets up and maintains salad bars, dessert stations and other food service areas

As part of the Food & Nutrition Services team, the Food Prep Worker plays an important role in supporting daily operations and delivering high-quality meal service across the organization. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where reliability, teamwork and service excellence make a meaningful contribution to the patient and employee experience.
Position Summary
Performs food preparation functions in the kitchen and cafeteria as assigned to provide meals and nourishment for patients, staff and visitors.
Essential Duties
  • Performs basic cold food preparation for patients, cafeteria, school meals and catering functions.
  • Prepares and assembles food items and supplies for patient room service, cafeteria food stations and beverages.
  • Prepares and serves breakfast foods from the grill when intermediate, short term coverage is needed. Serves prepared hot food items from the steam table per customer request.
  • Sets up the dessert counter, breakfast bar and salad bar daily.

  • Performs as a back up to staff absences and vacancies, as necessary.
