Position Summary
The EHS Engineer will improve EHS management performance and help ensure conformance. Responsible for governing EHS policies, procedures and programs that address regulations, Teleflex EHS standards and associated requirements. This will involve driving a culture of proactive hazard identification and risk mitigation while fostering documented standard work and Zero Harm focussed EHS management. Effectively collaborates and communicates with various departments, the Site Leads, and the Regional EHS Manager to achieve success.
Principal Responsibilities
• This position leads the EHS programs at two Teleflex sites: the office building with laboratory space in Morrisville NC (home office) and the R&D Center in Wyomissing, PA.
• Coordinates with Site Lead and site risk owners to develop, implement and maintain the site's EHS Management System, known hereafter as the Core Management System (CMS), in line with the Teleflex Global EHS Manual. Both the site CMS and Global EHS Manual are aligned with the International Management Standards ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
• Coordinate and drive the site's Zero Harm Journey and contribute to Teleflex realizing its Zero Harm Vision by enabling management to develop EHS business partner relationships.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and continuously improving site EHS policies & procedures and work instructions.
• Manage projects, programs, and permits related but not limited to; wastewater, storm water & hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, radiation protection, community right-to-know reporting, and emergency planning/response for spill, fire and medical emergencies. and other applicable environmental regulations.
• Prepare various annual environmental reports as required by local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring such reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner. Examples include hazardous and residual waste reports, federal toxic chemical release reports, and other environmental-related community right-to-know reports.
• Assist the site management team to ensure capital projects and major process changes appropriately identify and address EHS risk as per Teleflex projects EHS management guidelines and EHS management of change (MOC) principles.
• Identify, investigate, report, and effectively communicate all critical EHS nonconformances (NC's) and areas for improvement. Help site management evaluate the significance of EHS concerns, determine the source of variance, and specify steps using the hierarchy of controls methodology in correcting the condition or the need for further controls.
• Guide and participate with the site EHS committee team's, EHS grassroots groups and associated regular meetings.
• Work with Site Leads to develop and assign incident investigation teams, determine root cause and associated corrective actions, and report findings.
• Develops and implements site-specific EHS training plan and training presentation material.
• Develops, utilizes, monitors the sites EHS compliance calendar to warrant all federal, state, local & internal Teleflex Global EHS requirements and associated deadlines are met.
• Manages & continuously improves the sites industrial hygiene, chemical hygiene, and bloodborne pathogens exposure control programs.
• Work closely with site management and risk owners in carrying out their EHS roles and responsibilities in implementing corporate driven EHS initiatives.
• Develops, gathers, analyzes, and reports metrics to the Site Lead, Regional EHS Manager and Global EHS Department regarding EHS performance.
• Manage the quality and accuracy of content in the site's EHS Improvement Register (EHSIR), Incident Register (IR), EHS Compliance Calander, EHS Training Matrix, Performance Evaluation Program (PEP) and monthly Global EHS Scorecard.
Education / Experience Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or post-graduate level with a core focus closely related to EHS management and 5+ years of EH&S management controls experience
or Bachelor's degree or post-graduate level with an Engineering or Manufacturing focus and 10 years of EHS management experience
• Preferred Occupational Safety & Health Professional Certifications; CSP Certification (US), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or CRSP Certification (Canada) or Chartered status with IOSH (EU).
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
Principal Responsibilities cont.:
• Evaluate and act upon new environmental & safety regulations. Ensures compliance with EHS regulations and Teleflex standards; follows emerging EHS regulations and issues.
• Help to initiate development of proactive EHS programs, including minimizing waste, energy, and water usage. May also help to track and report sustainability metrics.
• Help to negotiate and secure contracts with EHS-related vendors (e.g., hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal, PPE suppliers, external trainers, etc.)
• Primary contact for agencies such as EPA, PADEP, OSHA and local Fire Department for inspections, permitting, licenses, registrations, reporting and other compliance issues.
• Proactively identifies potential EHS hazards through risk assessments, Gemba walks, inspections etc., and ensures timely and appropriate immediate corrections and associated final corrective actions are implemented when hazards are identified.
• Fill in for facility services personnel in Morrisville during absences and during times of high demand, such as site-wide events, equipment / material deliveries, and other needs as specified by the facilities service supervisor.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements:
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, standards, and best practices (EPA, DOT, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, IOSH)
• Strong knowledge and experience with administrative-related applications; Microsoft Office suite, teleconference software (Skype, Webex, MS Teams), data visualization Software (Tableau, Power BI) and collaborative platforms (SharePoint, Yammer, OneDrive)
• Ability to source and interpret relevant, published best practice controls and standards before offering advice
• Experience with EHS-related software a plus (Benchmark / Gensuite)
• Confidence and effective decision making regarding escalations, notifications and where justified: whistle blowing.
• Strong project management skills.
• English language competence (written & spoken) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs preferred.
• Ability to perform ~ 50-50% sedentary and mobile job duties.
