Overview
A Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining packaging equipment to ensure efficient production of dinner rolls and Parker House pans. Duties include performing machine setup and changeovers, adjusting machine settings, changing product recipes, and ensuring packaging equipment runs according to production specifications and quality standards. The operator troubleshoots equipment issues, performs minor mechanical adjustments, and works closely with the packaging team to minimize downtime and maintain production flow. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a clean and safe work environment, completing required documentation, and following all food safety and company procedures under the direction of the Supervisor and Floor Lead.
Responsibilities
    • Review all pertinent SOP's and is a QI (Qualified Individual) for the position
    • Sets up the machine before the shift begins.
    • Changes packaging materials as needed; ensures packaging materials are correct and positioned correctly in the machine.
    • Communicates all necessary information to the oncoming shift machine operators.
    • Monitors and adjusts weight control of packaged units.
    • Records all lot information as required.
    • Maintains standard production quantities/rates for each product.
    • Ensures codes are accurate and in the correct format.
    • Maintains company standards for cleanliness, food safety, and productivity in the packaging area.
    • Replenishes packaging supplies such as film, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, or labels.
    • Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions; makes minor adjustments/repairs; communicates mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.
    • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA, and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards.
    • Strives to be a safety solutions leader by maintaining the 200% for safety mindset. Participates in engagement activities, completes required safety training, and aids in identifying hazards utilizing BBS and Safety Monitor programs.
    • Participates in activities related to Marzetti Operational Excellence.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.
  • Previous mechanical experience is preferred.
  • Understanding food safety standards and sanitation practices.
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills

Working Conditions/Environment
Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, reach, lift and bend while moving about the facility. Must be able to move 75 pounds a distance of 25 feet or more. Must be able to stand for a 10-hour shift (sometimes longer) with two paid 15 minute breaks and one unpaid 30 minute meal period. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee is regularly exposed to cold, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the plant is loud. Earplugs, hairnets, and steel toed shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards
