Job description

This is an excellent opportunity to join the finance team and leverage strong analytical and data-driven capabilities to support financial and operational decision-making in a manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for transforming financial and operational data into actionable insights, with a focus on cost analysis, inventory valuation, and performance reporting.

The ideal candidate combines a strong foundation in accounting with advanced data analysis skills. You bring experience working with ERP systems, large datasets, and BI tools, and have the ability to interpret manufacturing data (BOMs, routings, work centers) and translate it into meaningful financial insights that drive business performance.

This position works closely with Senior Management, Finance, Production, Supply Chain, and Operations to support data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze large datasets related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and production performance to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports (Power BI / Excel) to track KPIs such as gross margin, inventory performance, and cost variances
  • Perform detailed margin analysis by customer, product, and job, identifying key cost drivers
  • Monitor production jobs and proactively flag potential gross profit risks
  • Build and automate recurring financial and operational reports to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Conduct variance analysis on inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing overhead
  • Reconcile inventory-related general ledger accounts and ensure data integrity across systems
  • Build, update, and maintain the company’s annual operating plan and longer-term 5 year forecast.
  • Support month-end and year-end processes through data validation and reporting
  • Analyze impacts of changes in bills of materials,  product design, materials, and manufacturing methods on cost structure
  • Partner with operations teams to help interpret financial results and improve cost visibility
  • Support budgeting and forecasting through historical trend analysis and predictive insights
  • Assist in developing and tracking KPIs to measure plant and operational performance
  • Act as a subject matter expert for ERP data, BI reporting, and data governance within finance
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and enhanced analytical reporting

Qualifications

  • CPA designation or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5–10 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, audit, or cost accounting within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost drivers (BOMs, routings, work centers)
  • Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, Pivot Tables, data modeling, VBA, Python)
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, or other data analytics / visualization tools
  • Experience working with ERP and accounting systems (e.g., Global Shop, Sage, Netsuite or similar)
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS), with exposure to U.S. (GAAP) and U.K. accounting frameworks considered a strong asset
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate complex financial and operational data to non-finance stakeholders

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and RRSP matching
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, EAP)
  • Opportunities to expand skills in data analytics and business intelligence
  • Cross-functional exposure to operations and leadership teams
  • A fast-paced manufacturing environment focused on continuous improvement
