Job description

Project Manager
Location: Austin, TX – Hybrid + Relocation support. 

The Project Manager will manage and coordinate substation and transmission line projects. This role involves directing and overseeing activities related to cost estimating, property acquisition, material procurement, permitting, construction, testing, and commissioning. The position is crucial for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet design and construction specifications, as well as regulatory requirements. The role reports to the Director of Construction.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage transmission and substation projects from initial conception through completion, including engineering, bidding, financial forecasting, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Lead new project efforts, including site selection, design, layout, and facility configuration.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates and schedules for project funding approval.
  • Secure necessary property, easements, permits, and agreements for new projects.
  • Support the Regulatory department in successful filings.
  • Develop contracting strategies and comprehensive bid packages to minimize risk.
  • Review proposals, provide award recommendations, and anticipate project delays or cost overages with corrective action plans.
  • Oversee design packages to ensure compliance with design and construction standards.
  • Review and negotiate change orders, mentor internal teams, and manage contractor relationships.
  • Lead efforts to revise design and construction specifications and manage project outages.
  • Approve project-related invoicing and lead monthly project meetings.
  • Establish and manage schedules, budgets, and technical objectives to meet project outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental standards.
  • Occasionally travel to project sites to review progress.
  • Oversee the transition of projects from construction to operational phases.
 
Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's degree in construction or engineering-related field.
  • At least 5 years of combined experience in engineering design, project management, procurement, and construction of high-voltage transmission or substation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards for 138 kV and 345 kV transmission and substation projects.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and codes such as NESC, NEC, IEEE, AISC, ACI, and OSHA.
  • Strong skills in planning, scheduling, and coordinating work.
  • Ability to collaborate with developers and stakeholders to maintain project standing.
  • Experience managing EPC contracts for transmission and substation projects.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Able to adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen, decision-making skills, and flexibility in tackling new challenges.
