Job Description:
Job Summary
As the Clerk - HIM, you will play a key role in maintaining the accuracy, security, and accessibility of confidential medical records in compliance with Indiana state laws and federal regulations. You will manage the release and receipt of records within the electronic health record (EHR) system while partnering with internal and external stakeholders to request and obtain medical documentation.
In this role, you will review, prepare, and accurately scan medical records into the EHR, ensuring data integrity and completeness. You will serve as a knowledgeable resource by responding to inquiries related to record releases, HIPAA compliance, and immunization requirements. Additionally, you will collect and verify student immunization records to ensure compliance with state laws and Purdue University standards.
You will also support quality and compliance efforts by conducting chart audits and submitting required public health reports to the state database. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across teams, including providing backup support to the administrative assistant, while contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of HIM operations.

Purdue University's Student Health (PUSH) Center,has a mission to promote a healthy campus culture by providing high quality, evidence-based, patient-focused primary healthcare through an accredited model of excellence for the Purdue University student community. Our staff of board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners provide student-oriented primary care as well as ongoing care for chronic conditions. What We're Looking For
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of general office experience

Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to handle confidential information discretely on a daily basis is critical.
  • Strong organization skills necessary.
  • Must be able to provide excellent customer service, often with frequent interruptions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to interact with a customer base using tact and diplomacy is essential.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate effectively a variety of policies and procedures to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to independently research issues and draw sound conclusions.
  • Ability to learn new and advancing technologies.

Nice to Have:
  • One (1) year of medical office experience.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding, medical terminology, and anatomy.
