Inside Sales Associate (Entry Level)

Position: Full-Time
Starting Salary: $40,000 - $45,000 annually

Smith Metal Source, Inc. is seeking a motivated and dependable Inside Sales Associate to join our sales team. This position is designed to develop an individual into a fully functioning Inside Sales Representative through hands-on training in our products, customers, pricing, quoting, order entry, inventory, and day-to-day sales operations.

The Inside Sales Associate will initially support our existing sales team while learning the metals distribution business. As product knowledge and experience increase, the trainee will take on additional customer responsibilities, including quoting, order management, customer follow-up, and eventually managing accounts independently.

Primary Responsibilities

·         Assist Inside Sales Representatives with daily customer needs, quoting, order entry, and follow up.

·         Answer incoming customer calls and emails professionally and promptly.

·         Learn Smith Metal Source’s aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel products.

·         Learn material specifications, gauges, thicknesses, sizes, grades, finishes, and common applications.

·         Prepare customer quotes using established pricing guidelines.

·         Enter and process sales orders accurately.

·         Check inventory availability and communicate lead times to customers.

·         Coordinate with purchasing when material is not currently available.

·         Follow up on open quotes and identify opportunities to convert quotes into orders.

·         Assist with house accounts, walk-in customers, will call orders, and incoming sales opportunities.

·         Communicate with the warehouse, purchasing, accounting, and outside sales teams to ensure customer needs are handled efficiently.

·         Maintain accurate customer, quote, and order information in company systems.

·         Learn customer buying patterns and assist in identifying additional sales opportunities.

·         Provide coverage for Inside Sales Representatives during vacations, absences, meetings, and periods of high call volume.

·         Develop the knowledge and ability necessary to independently manage an Inside Sales desk.

·         Support Outside Sales Representatives so they can remain focused on customer visits, prospecting, and business development.

·         Perform other sales related duties as needed.

The goal of this position is to develop the associate into an Inside Sales Representative capable of independently managing customers and an Inside Sales territory or desk.

Previous metals industry experience is not required. Sales, customer service, manufacturing, distribution, construction, or industrial experience is helpful but not necessary.
