POSITION SUMMARY

The Instrumentation Development Engineer I designs, develops, and improves measurement systems, ensuring they meet quality and accuracy requirements. This role combines engineering technical expertise with creativity to ensure functionality, efficiency, and innovation. The Instrumentation Development Engineer I interfaces with the larger engineering team, covering manufacturing operations and research and development projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • Assist in designing, setting up, and troubleshooting various measurement systems, with a strong focus on optical spectroscopy equipment.
  • Collect and document system requirements at project launch, to accurately specify hardware needs.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation so end users can easily understand how the measurement systems function.
  • Create effective calibration procedures for custom systems or off-the-shelf instruments.
  • Provide troubleshooting support during manufacturing downtime events to help technician teams quickly solve issues.
  • Prototype new systems to build confidence before pursuing production grade designs with the larger team.
  • Actively engage and collaborate with individuals and teams across the organization to solve impactful problems.
HOW YOU’LL DO IT

Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of engineering principles, product lifecycle, and design software. Communicating Effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey clear understanding, taking into account the unique needs of different audiences. Analytical Thinking - Tackling a problem by using a logical, systematic, and sequential approach. Problem Solving - Defining a problem, determining the cause, identifying, prioritizing and selecting alternatives for a solution, and implementing a solution. Project Management - Applying knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to manage and meet project requirements. Fostering Teamwork - Building effective partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. Maintaining a high level of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality with respect to company matters. Complying with all Company policies and procedures, safety regulations, company safety policies and safely perform all duties, including but not limited to, promoting a safe workplace.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Optical) or relevant technical disciplines.
  • 1+ years of engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Basic or better understanding of optics and light.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
WHAT WILL HELP
  • Experience in measurement system analysis or design of experiments.
  • Knowledge of color science and color measurements.
  • Previous experience with optical spectroscopy or metrology.
  • Hands on prototyping experience.
  • Basic or better knowledge of electronics and mechanical concepts.
  • Previous exposure to a lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Programming experience in any language (LabVIEW, MATLAB, C#, etc.).
