Global Laboratory Systems Engineering (GLSE) is the team responsible for defining and executing developmental manufacturing and test solutions within GM labs and garages. We cover manufacturing and testing projects across the globe with a constant focus on Safety, Quality, and Common data collection. We strive to work seamlessly with GM Product Engineering, GM Manufacturing Engineering, GM Laboratory Operations, and strategic external suppliers to provide high value equipment and systems to General Motors.Our team covers a complex mix of projects and work, ranging in size and scope, both short term and long term. This results in countless opportunities to work with new technology and grow as individuals and as a team.

We are seeking a Controls & Process Engineer to join our growing team! In this role you will be responsible for the successful implementation and validation of equipment and systems controls in new and existing applications. To accomplish this, you will partner with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, suppliers, and outside resources. Scope of work includes electric propulsion systems, battery cell manufacturing equipment, test measurement and control systems, PLC & PC software, and mechanical/electrical systems. You will develop and interpret standards, coordinate integration and installation of equipment and test systems, resolve equipment issues, support upgrades and improve equipment and test uptime, and ensure test data quality. In addition to controls engineering knowledge, an understanding of complex engineering theory and principles of mechanical and electrical mechanisms and experience in equipment installations and rearrangements are key to your success. What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Lead and support projects that define, source, engineer, integrate, install, and commission new capital equipment into General Motors laboratories

  • Provide controls related technical direction and oversight to outside vendors/suppliers

  • Generate technical solutions for current and future projects & equipment from a controls & process engineering perspective

  • Understand and work to timelines and milestones for projects/assignments to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.

  • Provide technical support for escalated issues at labs and garages

  • Lead continuous improvement engineering activities

  • Follow all corporate safety standards and site safety policies

  • Domestic & International travel - about 5-10%

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in equipment controls & process integration and commissioning

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with high level of autonomy and accountability for results

  • Knowledge of equipment specification and qualification

  • Ability to travel, domestic and international

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Masters degree in Engineering

  • Experience with GM-specific processes, including G-risk, G-comply, Design for Health & Safety, Safety Control Systems

  • Experience purchasing capital equipment

  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship and communication skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization

  • Creative in meeting project quality, timing, and cost landmarks

  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment

  • HMI- Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi and/or Beckhoff experience

  • PLC- Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi and/or Beckhoff experience

  • Proficiency in industrial networking protocols - Profibus, Profinet, TCP/IP and EthernetIP
