Technical Support Specialist – Mining & Drilling Equipment

Position Summary

NASCO Industrial Services & Supply LLC (NISS) is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Technical Support Specialist to provide technical support and maintenance services for mining and drilling contractors. This position is responsible for servicing rock-drilling equipment, maintaining down-hole drilling tools, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and supporting both open-pit and underground drilling operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys working in the field, and can perform effectively in remote and challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on the proper use, handling, and best‑practice operation of drilling tools, assemblies, and down‑hole components to support safe and effective performance.
  • Travel to customer locations, mine sites, and drilling operations throughout assigned territories, including open-pit and underground mines.
  • Provide technical support to mining and drilling contractors regarding drilling procedures, tool applications, and equipment performance.
  • Recommend corrective actions to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Assist with inventory control, parts management, and consumable tracking.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through professional service and technical expertise.

Required Qualifications 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently in remote field environments.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently, including overnight and extended travel to remote job sites.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy equipment and components.
  • Ability to work safely in harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with rock-drilling equipment, mining operations, or drilling tools.
  • Knowledge of top-hammer and DTH drilling systems.
  • Previous field service, mechanical maintenance, mining, construction, or heavy equipment experience.
  • Familiarity with open-pit and underground mining environments.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel to remote mine sites and drilling operations.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and rugged terrain.
  • Work may include extended shifts, weekends, and on-call support as required by customer operations.
  • Physical demands include standing, climbing, bending, lifting, and moving heavy components and equipment.
