ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking an experienced Technical Writer, Level 3 to join our Beacon Interrogator/Surveillance and Broadcast Services (SBS) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Oklahoma City, OK. This is a full-time on-site position at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC).
The FAA Surveillance and Broadcast Services (SBS) program is a major NextGen initiative to modernize air traffic surveillance. It uses ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) technology, enabling aircraft to broadcast their position and receive real-time traffic/weather data, enhancing safety and efficiency over traditional radar.
Citizenship Requirement
All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Be a US Citizen.
  • Have resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • RealID Driver's License/ID or current US Passport.

Relocation Requirement
Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Oklahoma City, OK.
Education & Experience Requirement
All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
  • Bachelors degree highly desired, OR
  • Associates degree, OR
    • A minimum of 2 years of experience in this specific technical area that is pertinent to the support of the National Airspace System (NAS).
    • This experience must have demonstrated the ability to acquire and present technical information through independent reading, interviews with subject matter experts, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate methods. Such experience may have been acquired as a writer or editor of technical reports, articles, manuals, or specifications.
    • Direct experience performing technical writing or editing is desired.
  • Six (6) plus years of experience is required.
  • NAS experience is preferred.

Required Skills
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • English language and grammar.
    • Describing information in simple, clear language.
  • Analytical/organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Technical documentation development and maintenance. This includes the ability to organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Visio, Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to:
    • Work independently, as well as a team, in a fast-paced environment.
    • Navigate complex workflows; research and problem solve; willingness to learn/try new things.
    • Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with computer scientists, engineers, project personnel and technical leads, as well as varying levels of management and customers.

Essential Daily Job Duties
  • Develop, write, and edit technical and administrative publications, including reports, manuals, proposals, and directives for complex FAA engineering procedures.
  • Ensure all written materials meet established standards for clarity, organization, style, terminology, and conciseness.
  • Review existing documents and recommend updates to improve scope, format, and content accuracy.
  • Manage multiple documents through all stages of the FAA documentation process.
  • Provide numbering support for notices, maintenance handbooks, and related publications.
  • Update documentation and processes, ensuring current information is maintained on the New User Documentation Guide & Examples (NUDGE) website.
  • Review and coordinate Letters of Authorizations (LOAs), manage field concurrence and modifications, set up personnel database accounts, and provide LOA guidance and training.
  • Support Web Configuration Management (WebCM) activities, review engineering casefiles, and deliver documentation training to less experienced writers and technical subject matter experts.
