CrowdStrike Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Technical Writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Writer, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, and content management systems is typically required. Attention to detail, the ability to simplify complex information, and effective collaboration are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure the creation of clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation that supports product usability and end-user satisfaction.

How does a Technical Writer typically collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) during documentation projects?

Technical Writers frequently work closely with subject matter experts to gather accurate information and clarify complex concepts. This collaboration often involves conducting interviews, attending product demos, and reviewing drafts together to ensure technical accuracy and clarity. Building a strong rapport with SMEs is essential, as it helps streamline the review process and results in higher-quality documentation. Effective communication and a proactive approach are key to overcoming challenges such as limited SME availability or evolving product features.

What does a Technical Writer do?

A Technical Writer creates clear, concise documentation to help users understand complex information, such as instruction manuals, user guides, online help systems, and technical reports. They work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, or product managers to gather information and translate it into easy-to-understand language. Technical Writers ensure that documentation is accurate, well-organized, and tailored to the intended audience, whether they are end-users, technicians, or business professionals.

Is technical writing replaced by AI?

Technical writing as a profession involves creating clear, accurate documentation that often requires understanding complex concepts and tailoring content to specific audiences. While AI tools can assist with tasks like drafting or editing, they do not fully replace the critical thinking, expertise, and contextual judgment that technical writers provide. Human oversight remains essential for producing high-quality, reliable documentation.

What is the difference between Technical Writer vs Technical Editor?

AspectTechnical WriterTechnical Editor
Primary RoleCreates and develops technical documentation, manuals, and guides.Reviews, revises, and ensures clarity and accuracy of technical content.

While both roles require technical knowledge and strong communication skills, Technical Writers focus on creating content, whereas Technical Editors concentrate on reviewing and improving existing documentation. Both roles are essential for producing clear, accurate technical materials in various industries.

Job description

As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn't changed - we're here to stop breaches, and we've redefined modern security with the world's most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We're also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We're always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Role:

Our mission is to make all of our customers' security-relevant data continuously available for automated detection and response, threat hunting, and other Falcon use cases. To enable this, the systems behind NG-SIEM are growing to accommodate >100 PB of event and action data ingested every day, up to 10 years of retention, and dozens of millions of queries per hour across large sections of the data stored.

As our new Principal Engineer on the LogScale Search team you will be responsible for delivering this scale to customers by developing new features as well as improving existing functionality. You will own the technical vision and direction of our product. You will be joining a distributed team of highly collaborative engineers who share a strong passion for the product. In this role you will get a chance to work on hard engineering problems that do not have well-defined solutions. You will become one of the go-to experts of the LogScale, and will have a broad understanding of the entire LogScale architecture.

This role is hybrid, on-site at one of the posted locations: Sunnyvale, CA; Redmond, WA; New York City; Austin, TX or Toronto, Canada.

NYC, Austin and Toronto Locations: This role is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days per week on-site in our office once the development center is established.

What You'll Do:

  • Evolve and apply the technical vision for getting to >100 PB/d of event and action log ingestion, while enabling greatly multiplied query intensity over this data set.

  • Lead by example on customer and product focus, as well as on hands-on operational excellence.

  • Deliver key parts of our systems directly as an individual contributor, or as part of a project-focused engineering team.

  • Demonstrate promising approaches to problems or opportunities via proof-of-concept software, and then secure owner buy-in and funding; ensure teams stay on track during delivery.

  • Move our product mission forward: partner with your peers todevelop the NG-SIEM technical and product strategy and roadmap, and own the execution of that roadmap.

  • Engage with principal engineers across CrowdStrike to ensure that we are coherent in our technical strategy across Falcon modules and across the CrowdStrike technical landscape.

  • Your impact is not bounded and you will be enabled to engage and collaborate with various teams and ensure our product's success. You will work cross functionally with your peers in the product engineering organization as well as with field leaders in sales, customer success, and support.

  • We are a remote first company so you must bring your excellent verbal and written communication skills to bear when you are working with teams across the globe. You'll also travel a few times every year to meet with teams and peers.

What You'll Need:

  • 12+ years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining multiple software products/systems/releases, preferably in a SaaS delivery model, across all phases of the development lifecycle, and across multiple software stacks;

  • 8+ years of experience as an engineer in a force-multiplying position (delivery through others);

  • Current hands-on experience as an engineer (3+ years) owning a distributed system that handled tens of billions of requests per day or more than 1 PB of data per day;

  • History of significant and continued impact on customer experience and business results;

  • Demonstrated track record of operational excellence when operating services that span many components across several geographical regions;

  • Experience working with and growing strong engineers within remote teams across geographies and cultures;

  • Ability to communicate and articulate crisply at all levels from executive staff to individual contributors.

Bonus Points:

  • Hands on development experience in Scala.

  • Solid grounding in the technology of at least one cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Expertise with Kafka.

  • Exposure to or experience with Log Management or cybersecurity products.

  • Machine learning and data science familiarity and hands-on experience.
