As of Aug 20, 2026, the average hourly pay for television syndication in the United States is $35.66, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.99 and $39.66 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is television syndication?

Television syndication is the process of selling the rights to broadcast television programs to multiple individual stations, rather than exclusively through a network. This allows shows to reach wider audiences by airing on various local channels across different regions and time slots. Syndication is commonly used for reruns of popular series, talk shows, and game shows, and can be a significant source of revenue for producers. Shows are usually syndicated either as 'off-network syndication' (reruns of previously aired network shows) or 'first-run syndication' (original shows made directly for syndication).

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in television syndication?

Success in Television Syndication requires a solid understanding of media licensing, content distribution, and contract negotiation, often backed by experience in media or business-related fields. Proficiency with rights management software, audience analytics tools, and CRM systems is typically important. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and strategic thinking skills help professionals excel in negotiating deals and managing partnerships. These abilities are crucial for maximizing content reach, revenue, and maintaining strong industry relationships in a competitive marketplace.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in television syndication, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in television syndication often navigate complex negotiations with broadcasters and streaming platforms, balancing the need to maximize revenue while maintaining favorable terms for both parties. Additionally, staying up-to-date with shifting viewer habits and emerging distribution technologies can be challenging. Successful syndication teams frequently collaborate closely with legal, marketing, and content development departments to ensure deals are structured effectively and programming remains relevant to diverse audiences. Building strong industry relationships and staying adaptable to market changes are key strategies for overcoming these challenges.
