Job description

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Maintenance Execution team based out of our Gaston, SC facility. The ideal candidate for the Pipe Welder will be detail-oriented, adaptable, and committed to safety. With experience in welding materials such as titanium, Hastelloy, stainless steel, and carbon steel, they will excel in both shop and field welds. They will communicate effectively, collaborate with teams, and work independently with minimal supervision. Able to thrive under pressure, they will consistently meet deadlines while ensuring high-quality results and maintaining equipment safety. ResponsibilitiesThe Pipe Welder will be reportable to the Metal Services Supervisor and have responsibilities for the following tasks: 
  • Performs welds on various types of materials to include titanium, Hastelloy, stainless, and carbon 
  • Performs various piping functions to include shop fabrication, field demo and install, field runs and repairs, and screw pipe install and repair 
  • Sets up and operates welders, drill press, band saw, oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutters, etc. 
  • Performs field welds on equipment and vessels in various locations and positions 
  • Maintains equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety 
  • Supports company’s planning and scheduling model during routine and shutdown execution 
  • Utilizes SAP for work orders, parts and material, and time entry.  
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and identifying proactive needs. 
Required SkillsRequired  
  • Active welder certifications (GMAW, GTAW, SWAW, FCAW) 
  • 3+ years pipe welding experience in an industrial manufacturing facility 
  • Experience working with stainless steel and carbon steel pipe from 1" schedule 5 to 12" schedule 40 pipe 
  • Ability to distinguish between titanium, Hastelloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum 
  • Knowledge of welding repair techniques 
  • Ability to weld on aluminum, stainless, and carbon steel  
  • Ability to set up, adjust, and operate welders, drill press, band saw, oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutters, etc. 
  • Capable of understanding and following blueprints, sketches, specifications, written, and verbal instructions 
  • Strong basic math skills, ability to convert decimals to fractions, and use all units of measure 
  • Ability to read a tape measure and square to 1/32" 
  • Ability to follow instructions and execute job duties in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures. 
  • Exhibit punctual, reliable, and consistent attendance 
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Strong attention to detail and decision-making skills to prevent accidents and inefficiencies 
  • Must be able to work overtime, to include nights and weekends, when needed in order to meet deadlines 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license 
  • Will be required to pass welding practical tests as follows per ASME and BPVC standards 
  • Will be required to pass pipe welding practical tests  
 
Physical Requirements 
  • Must be able to physically meet job requirements, standing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs. 
  • May be required to work from heights and confined spaces 
 
Preferred 
  • Experience as a pipe fitter 
  • AWS certification 
  • Ironwork/Rigging 
  • May be required to get certification in operation of overhead cranes, forklifts, and man lifts.
