Job description

Plant Nursery Supervisor & Operator

R & D Nurseries, Inc. is a growing tropical foliage nursery looking for a reliable, experienced, and hands-on Plant Nursery Supervisor & Operator to join our team full-time.

This is an active position for someone who enjoys working with plants, working outdoors and in greenhouse environments, and being part of a growing nursery operation. The ideal candidate should have previous nursery, greenhouse, landscaping, horticulture, or plant-care experience and be comfortable taking responsibility for a variety of daily nursery operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist with daily nursery operations and plant care
  • Spray plants using proper application and safety procedures
  • Water and maintain tropical foliage plants
  • Load and unload trucks and assist with receiving and shipping
  • Prepare plants and orders for shipment
  • Work weekends and occasional extended hours when needed
  • Operate and monitor propane heaters during cold weather
  • Work in hot, humid, and changing weather conditions
  • Assist with moving, organizing, and maintaining plants throughout the nursery
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Travel between our nursery locations in Umatilla and Zellwood, Florida
  • Work closely with management and other team members to keep daily operations running efficiently
  • Take initiative and help solve problems as they arise

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate should be:

  • Experienced or have a strong working knowledge of nursery, greenhouse, horticulture, landscaping, or plant-care operations
  • Comfortable working with tropical plants and learning about new plant varieties
  • Able to safely handle plant treatments and spraying responsibilities
  • Dependable and willing to work weekends when needed
  • Organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks
  • A strong team player with good communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and taking direction
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable operating basic nursery equipment
  • Able to work safely around propane heaters and other nursery equipment
  • Able to lift, carry, push, and move heavy plants, materials, and equipment
  • Comfortable working in hot temperatures and physically demanding conditions
  • Able to travel/commute between our Umatilla and Zellwood nursery locations
  • Willing to learn and grow with a rapidly expanding nursery business

Enjoys working with plants and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty. We are looking for someone who is hands-on, dependable, hardworking, organized, and willing to take ownership of their responsibilities.
