Job description

The Role: Maintains the onion shed packing lines and facilities to maximize packing operations and efficiency. Also responsible for auditing the condition of the equipment and facility and ensuring that repairs are performed to keep the product flowing and in compliance with food safety (GAP) and quality control specifications.
Location(s): Hollister, CA; Yuma, AZ
Areas of Responsibility:
  • Experience welding stainless steel and mild steel
  • Ability to perform good oxygen/acetylene torch skills
  • General knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic working systems
  • Solid electrical understanding and troubleshooting skills of packing line equipment
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, and also be detail oriented
  • Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate good work habits of being a dependable, reliable, and punctual employee
  • Ability to travel occasionally and as needed between harvesting regions
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Education and/or Experience: High School/Trade School diploma with 3 years prior experience with packing lines and machinery a plus.
  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in all circumstances, including over the phone, through email, and in person. Must have written and verbal interpersonal skills to communicate and work with team members, supervisors, management, and external suppliers. Must be able to present information effectively and respond to questions.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet software.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • In this position, the employee must be able to sit, stand, squat, climb on, over, and under packing line equipment while performing repairs, maintenance, or audit. Must be able to lift equipment and repair parts that weigh up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
