Job description

EPA Environmental Specialist

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:                   EPA Director

CONTROLLING SUPERVISOR:             Chair

STATUS: Regular, Full-Time 

LOCATION: Kaw City, OK  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have an associate’s in environmental science or a related field with the ability to withstand outside harsh environments. This individual must be able to physically lift at least 50lbs. Must be able to set priorities, organize, coordinate work efficiently, and establish good personal relations with other office workers and work independently and creatively.  Must be able to communicate well, both verbally and written format, and prepare and present technically correct and detailed material through presentations. Must be able to lead a small team independently in field work. Must have lab experience and understand safety procedure. Must be able to attend out-of-state trainings, certifications, and conferences to further their knowledge in environmental work. Must be at least eighteen years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable.

OVERVIEW:

The Environmental Specialist will be required to conduct environmental field work as instructed and participate in environmental objectives, goals, and activities of all Kaw Nation EPA Programs. The applicant must demonstrate the potential to succeed in the job and the ability to complete on-the-job training and certification.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Complete water quality sampling and monitoring.
  2. Complete air quality monitoring.
  3. Complete indoor air quality sampling and/or monitoring.
  4. Lead a team in prescribed, burns such as wetlands.
  5. Organize outreach programs such as recycling, educational outreach activities, community cleanup.
  6. Any other duties that may be assigned and required by the EPA Director.

All new hires will be required by the Kaw Nation to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and background check.  Failure to pass the pre-employment drug screen or background check will lead to withdrawal of the job offer or termination of employment.
