Exovera is seeking a motivated Chinese Linguist-Analyst to lead language-enabled research, analytic services and forward-thinking insight on complex issues related to China.

Exovera provides research, analysis, and operational capabilities to government, defense, and private-sector clients. Our team consists of China, Russia, and Iran-focused linguist-analysts who work closely with a cadre of software engineers to produce cutting-edge insights, data exploitation, and tool development.

Essential Job Duties

  • Work individually and as part of a team to conduct open-source research and analysis in Mandarin Chinese -language using online sources, academic publications, gray literature, and in-house proprietary databases.
  • Identify and collect data for analysis and to create finished reports.
  • Write and edit finished analytic reports, ranging from short briefs to monograph-length studies.
  • Engage with senior clients to discuss project needs and opportunities and to brief reports.
  • Establish subject matter expertise in areas of analytic responsibility, including identifying key items for research and analysis and potential new data sources.
  • Work with in-house software developers to identify and assist collection and processing of Mandarin Chinese documents and structured data.
Qualifications
  • Active Secret clearance. An in-scope TS or TS/SCI clearance is preferred. For an applicant with a 10+ history of research, publication, and thought leadership in China political-military analysis, a current clearance is not necessarily required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Chinese military strategy, doctrine, and capabilities; science and technology development; and/or political system.
  • Minimum 4-5 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Advanced Mandarin Chinese language skills equivalent to or above ILR 2+ level for reading and listening.
  • Superior verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong demonstrated ability to work individually, as part of a team, and to lead small project teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in area studies, intelligence studies, political science, security studies, international relations, data science, computer science, or related field; Masters or PhD preferred, and required for an applicant without an active security clearance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
