Job description

At YouVersion, we build technology that helps people around the world connect with God every day. As a Senior Software Engineer, youโ€™ll play a key role in building and improving the systems behind the YouVersion Family of Apps. Youโ€™ll contribute directly to development, own technical design for projects, and help guide your team toward strong, consistent engineering practices.
ย
YouVersion was created by the local church in 2007 and remains a ministry of Life.Church today. At Life.Church, our mission is simple: to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. We believe technology is a powerful tool for spiritual growth, and we're committed to using it to help people engage with the Bible like never before.
ย
At our core, we know that seeking God daily has the power to transform lives. That's why everything we build is designed to encourage, challenge, and inspire people to take their next step in faith wherever they are.
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain software across the YouVersion platform.
  • Own technical design for projects and clearly communicate tradeoffs.
  • Review, test, and approve code to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Partner with engineers to align on technical approach and development plans.
  • Support and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Help maintain consistency in technical direction across your team.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across systems.
  • Contribute to improving team practices, tools, and processes.
What It Takes to Thrive
  • Strong software engineering experience with the ability to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
  • Comfort owning technical decisions and working through tradeoffs.
  • Ability to support and guide other engineers without formal authority.
  • Clear communication, especially when explaining complex concepts.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and follow through.
  • Alignment with Life.Churchโ€™s mission and desire to build things that help people grow in their faith.
Technical Experience

We work across mobile, web, and backend systems. You should bring strong experience in at least one of the following:

  • Backend systems (e.g., Python, Golang, APIs).
  • Mobile development (Flutter/Dart, iOS/Swift, Android).
  • Web development (React, Node.js, TypeScript).
What You Bring
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of related work experience.
  • Track record of contributing to production systems and team success.
Benefits We Offer
  • Paid parental leave, including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave.
  • Generous employer-paid leave for the use of vacation, sick time, and other qualifying reasons.ย
  • Innovative and comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance that provides team members with useful resources and savings to navigate their holistic health.ย
  • Life insurance policy provided for all staff members at 2x annual salary at no cost. Additional life insurance coverage is available to purchase.ย
  • Short-Term and Long-Term disability is covered at 100% for full-time qualified staff members.
  • Comprehensive wellness and mental health benefits allow staff to proactively invest in their physical and emotional health.
  • Generous 401(k) retirement plan allowing a team member to have up to 12.5%ย (includingย employee contribution, employer match, and employer discretionary contribution) contributed into their account in their first year. It doesnโ€™t stop thereโ€”the more years on staff, the greater the investment!ย
  • $160 annually in development dollars for team members to invest in their professional growth.ย
  • Casual dress and work environment.
  • And much more!
